Do you swaddle lo?

We haven't swaddled lo since week 2. We found she hated it and would escape no matter how tight. She's super strong! Only problem is we can't get her to sleep lying down.. Only in her swing! I'm wondering if not swaddling her is the problem. I'm also curious as to how many swaddle and not. Thanks

Re: Do you swaddle lo?

  • We stopped swadding about 2 weeks after she arrived home from the NICU.  She would get her arms out of the swaddle so it was pointless.  She now wears a sleep sack and sleeps in her rock n play.

  • We do. I use A&A swaddle blankets. They are big and stretchy enough so I can swaddle him tight at the top wi his arms out, and loose around his legs. He didn't like to be swaddled any other way. It's trial and error. It's better to have it loose around their legs for their hip development.
  • We swaddle at night - just switched from blankets to the sleepsack so his feet can be free. He's got a super-strong startle reflex, so he's constantly waking himself up otherwise.
  • we swaddle only at night using the miracle blanket. there's no breaking out of it. she definitely sleeps longer stretches at night when we use it.
  • We swaddle at night. She will wake herself up if we don't swaddle her. Also we have found that swaddling settles her down when nothing else will.

  • We swaddle every night until her final morning sleep .  She will not sleep without it.  We use a halo swaddle sack or a miracle blanket if the halo USA dirty.

  • we use the swaddleme. DS doesn't break out, yet... we're just waiting for his left arm to break out.

  • We swaddle using large swaddle blankets using the Happiest Baby on the Block technique.

  • Still swaddling here... but he really only likes it when he's tired or sleeping, his startle reflex is very active and he will wake himself if his hands and arms are not somewhat restricted.

We use the A&A blankets right now, but also have a Miracle blanket and a Woombie which are both escape-proof. We'll probably start using those once he gets bigger and stronger.

  • We swaddle at night using the Halo Sleepsack. He would not be able to sleep well without it because he likes to move his arms so much.

  • we try to swaddle Waylon - but it's all in vain. It really pisses him off and he breaks out no matter what we do. We still try, though. Sometimes he'll stay in it if he's really tired.

  • We don't. She just doesn't like it. If I did I would make sure it was loose enough on her legs that she doesn't have to keep them stretched out. They are really supposed to be able to pull their legs up for hip development.

  • We use the SwaddleMe or Miracle blanket at night. He gets his left arm out most of the time, but still seems to enjoy being swaddled for sleep. Once he's awake though he wants outta that thing!

  • LO is only 5 days but we swaddle her. Every once in a while she'll sneak an arm out - but she seems to like it.

  • We swaddle.  Our NICU swaddled arms out.  They said it was for good motor development.  We are swaddling arms in.  According to the Happiest Baby on the Block, many babies think they don't like it, but the more you do it, the more restful sleep they get.  They won't jerk themselves awake.  I have been sleeping with her on my chest on the couch because she won't sleep any other way at night.  Tonight, I am going to swaddle her really tight arms in.  Hopefully, this works...

  • DS hates the swaddle and even fought it in the hospital. I tried it earlier today because nothing else was working and he screamed bloody murder. I have a woombie but DH really doesn't like it.
Edited because I am an English teacher and that's what we do.

  • Absolutely! He won't sleep in his crib without it. It really helps calm him down. He does like having his hands by his face so I leave one out and he's less likely to break out of it.

  • Sometimes, he's a pretty flexible kid. We use either Swaddle Mes or sleep sacks. He has managed to get himself out of the swaddle a couple times but mostly he likes it and it really helps to calm him down if hes fussing.
