Parenting after a Loss

When do you stop carrying your infant carrier?

Between DS and the carrier itself it is soo heavy and we got a really light one (graco 35).  I just wonder how old was your LO when you started taking them out and carrying them?  I feel like it's too soon now but he is so heavy I wonder how much longer?  TIA!

  • About 8 mos for us, but we just switched to a convertible last week.  We also have the snugride 35 and that thing is heavy by itself!  Isaac JUST broke 20 lbs.

  • We still take him out in the carrier, but I only carry it independently if I'm not going far (ie car to house).  I am much more likely these days to click that bad boy into the stroller for longer walks or wear him.

  • I was thinking that today, it's SO heavy, we have the Chicco Keyfit 30 and DD weighs somewhere around 11/12 lbs and I can barely lift it. I also feel like she is getting too big for it.

  • DS was 14lb last week and I think the carrier is like 10lb and I'm like 5' limping around trying not to fall over lol.  If I have to go far I just snap it into our city mini but I was curious when to just carry him so that sounds good.  Thanks ladies :)

  • We used the carrier until M grew out of it. Around 9 months I think.

Oh, fwiw, we kept her in it until she was 9ish months, but after 6ish months I just left it in the car like a regular car seat as it was just too much to carry.

this will be us soon- she's 18lbs. I'm jacked from lugging her around.

  • Most of the time we just snapped it into the stroller.  She was 8 months or so when we switched to the convertable car seat, so that was about the same time we stopped lugging the carrier.  We stuck with it because of cold weather.  It was a lot easier to cover her while in the carrier than keep her covered while carrying her alone.
