Switching BF LO to Milk?

Anyone still BF and planning on making the switch to cow milk?  DD is BF but gets two 4 oz bottles of formula a day.  I planning on introducing cow milk at 11.5 months and was going to start with 1/2 oz in her oatmeal and then adding 2 oz to the formula bottles.  After that I'm kind of at a loss, should replace the breast milk with this mixture? Or should I start replacing breast milk now with formula so she's used to this?  You can't mix cow milk and breast milk can you? (Sorry if that's a dumb question, I just don't know) *tia*

Re: Switching BF LO to Milk?

  • Of course you can mix BM and WCM. Why couldn't you? You can do what ever works for you. It really depends on if you want to keep BFing or if you're done. If you want to keep BFing, then go ahead and only replace the formula with WCM. If you want to stop, then you can switch to formula now and WCM later. Some LOs are fine with a straight up switch, others need to be transitioned. You can always try to give it straight and if LO won't take it, mix it until she will.

  • Thanks! I wasn't sure if you could mix the two.  Yes, I do plan on weaning from BM at 12 months.
