Thanks for the sleep training support below!!! I need it!
2brides - I'm just going to pretend that I don't know that your son didnt sttn until 3.5 Otherwise, I might start selling drugs or something to hire a night nanny, lol.
CT - My best mom friend said the same thing about the three hours. I am normally not the picture of patience, lol, but I have been mentally gearing up for this for a long time now, and am just so determined to give it a fair shot.
Wish me luck!
Re: CT & 2brides

Last night we had continued improvement, though I was more lenient with him. He's had a no-big-deal-little-cold all week, but a low grade fever arrived yesterday and his misery index rose. Sigh. So I was nice and laid down with him to help him get back to sleep at each waking, but I did still always leave after he dozed off.
So first night - more than 3 hours awake, 4 total wakings.
Second night - about 2 hours awake, 5 wakings.
Third night (last night) - less than 2 hours awake, 4 wakings.
And as for the actual sleep...
First night - longest stretch was 5 hours (yay!)
Second night - no stretch longer than 2 hours (BOO!!!)
Third night - one three hour stretch...there were some stretches an hour or less (BOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!)
He did seem to feel a bit better by this afternoon, so I'm hoping tonight won't be total crap.

good job!! you seem to be getting there!
do you feed him at any of those wakings or just pat him/lay down with him?

We nightweaned him by gradually pushing back "okay to nurse time" each night (in 15-45 minute increments). It went very well, then we backslid with teething. Then I went cold turkey with him "no milk until morning," which was hard, but worked well. Then he got sick. Now that we're working on getting him to sleep alone, I'm letting him keep the 4 am nursing, and we'll worry about trying to push that back once we hopefully get him sleeping better!
Last night I ended up having to sleep with him, he was so clearly sick and miserable. I need him to stay healthy so we can get this taken care of!!

i hear ya! good luck tonight!!
so far daisy will.not.be.calmed by anything but feeding. I'd cosleep until she was 12 if it meant she would drop the damn night feedings but no dice. She screams her little head off even while i'm holding/rocking/laying with her. ugh. of course i havent tried past an hour. one of these days i might just have to buck up and go for it no matter how long it takes. The other point of fustration is that its all me...DW gives in after 2 minutes. boo

The first night that we did the "no milk til morning" I believe it was a little over an hour of crying. And holy moly did it feel like a long time, lol.
It is so so hard in the middle of the night to put up the fight. We have tried to time some of the big transitions on weekends or when C has time off so we can either do it together at night, or the one who handles the night gets time off the next day. Going it alone (as I have been doing all week) is no fun at all.
I wonder if the gradual hold off might help with Daisy? I have also hear of success using a nightlight on a timer - no milk until the light comes on, and setting it later and later each night.
Sigh. Sleep stuff is so fun...

FWIW - Grayson fed during the night until 11m or so. We started night weaning him by decreasing the # of ounces in the bottle gradually. Once he was done with that and still waking, he only got water. Eventually he figured it wasn't worth the effort to wake for water. LOL.
In any case - I hope you both get to STTN soon.
