3rd Trimester

How many things should be on my registry?

My BRU registry started out with 119 things on it, but several family members bought gifts for the baby for Christmas, so now there are 102 items left on the registry. Of those things, a third (34) are under $10 (some are teethers, rattles or toys that cost like $3 or $4), so most people who get those things will probably get more than one, and 5 items are over $100 (breast pump, ergo carrier, etc) and are things that I don't really expect anyone to get for us, I just added them so that I could use the registry completion coupon on them. I'm just wondering if I need to add more things or if I have enough on my registry.

We're having two baby showers two weeks from now. One will be a shower at my church - they do a shower for every first-time mom, and typically about 75 women come (although some of those are kids who obviously won't be buying gifts). At our other shower, we're expecting about 30 people. I know that not everyone will buy gifts from the registry, and I'm totally fine with that. But I have no idea what percentage will want to buy from the registry, and I'd hate for someone to go to the store at the last minute to buy a gift off of the registry only to discover that their only options are some $3.99 hangers or a $220 breast pump. On the other hand, I don't want to seem really greedy if I have 200 things on my registry (and I'm having trouble thinking of more things to add.) Do I need to add more items, or is that enough?

(Re-reading my question, it sounds like some annoying math class story problem. Sorry about that!)

  • I wouldn't sweat it. It sounds like you have a pretty good list. If there are things you have thought of that you want, you can add them. Otherwise just leave it. There will be quite a few that won't shop from your registry. I look at the registry as a list of "wants" not "needs". Nobody, especially first-time parents, actually know all the things they will end up finding useful. If everything is taken off the registry I just supplement with something that I found useful and include a gift receipt just in case.

  • To be honest, I'm a last minute shopper and although I'd like to get something off the registry if I saw there were only hangers & pump, I'd go off the registry.... so if I were you I would add some things in the $20-50 range.

Maybe you could double up on some items that YOU KNOW you'll use, & return it after for the cash value to get your pump/pricey items.  That way you can be truthful in your thank you notes, & if they stop by they'll see the item in use.

  • At this point I would just watch your registry. If the selection gets really low then you can add more items. If you add too many options this early you may end up with a lot of items you thought were "okay" but not the items your "really" wanted/needed.

I wouldn't worry about the number of things on your registry, I would be more concerned with what is on it.  Quality not quantity.

    Ditto. Quality not Quantity.

Go through the registry, remove things you dont need and add things you do. I changed my registry a tiny bit regularly until a few days before the shower, and then changed it again so that I could make better use of my 10% registry completer. I think the 10% will only effect items on the registry so make sure its up to date.

  • If you are having 2 baby showers I would add afew more items or update the quantity of the items. Like if you registered for diapers, add another box or 2 it can't hurt

I agree as well. I put a ton of stuff on my bridal registry so there were options, and ended up getting a jumbled amount of random things. This time I am only putting the things I need. I will either get duplicates and return for money, or the guest can just purchase some cute clothes or something. I would try not to worry about it.

  • just put whatever you want. If you dont get anything from it, its great for a check off list of what you have to have
