January 2012 Moms

Ok, now I am frustrated. Sorry to whine so much lately.

I have mentioned in other threads that starting on Monday, I have felt really "off".  I have been having tons of contractions which feel much stronger than any BH I was having.  Some of them take my breath away.  Last night some of them woke me up.  I have been having almost constant menstrual cramps.  Also some back achiness, nausea, pressure, etc.  I am due in 5 days, so I know labor should be soon.

Tonight, I was bending over and felt a contraction coming.  Sometimes they squeeze a little pee out.  I felt a little pee come out, but then it wouldn't stop.  I was in the nursery so I walked out into the livingroom on the wood floors and stood there as it soaked my pants and made a puddle around my feet, where, of course, my stupid dog tried to lick it.Tongue Tied  It was clear with no smell.  My husband was still at work, so I called and said I would go to L&D just to verify it was my water and tell him to meet me if it was.  I took an hour to shower and pack my bag, with no further leaking.  The cramping and pressure got worse, but tolerable.

They did the test in L&D and it was not my water!  I was so sure it was:(  Not only was it not my water but I am still completely closed and at a level -3...after 3 days of uncomfortable contractions.  They kept me for an hour and a half where I had contractions the entire time...some back to back, some 2 minutes apart, and the longest 7 minutes apart.  Since I am undilated I was sent home.  It's like a super cervix...it will not dilate no matter what!

So I am home, contracting, very uncomfortable, and going to try to sleep.  I don't want to call them painful, but they are hurting me.  I feel like I am going to have constant contraction now for a week or 2 with no progress.  And now I feel like I am not going to know to go in when the time is right because I feel like I am crying wolf.

  • I'm sorry hon :( It sounds like your body is trying to coax LO along but they must be super comfy in there!

Last night wasn't a great night for me either, though not nearly as bad, so I feel your pain... ::hugs::

  • I'm sorry!! That does sound really frustrating. I've been having constant braxton hicks like that for weeks and the midwife told me that it's good because you're uterus is practicing so it will be nice and strong to push the baby out when it's time. I know that doesn't help a lot with the frustration, but try to remember that your body knows what it's doing. I feel the same way- I feel like I'm not going to know when it is really happening because so much stuff has been going on for so long!

  • Holey crap I can't believe that wasn't your water breaking with all those other symptoms and contractions combined!  I would be a mess and frustrated if I were you.  Hopefully the real thing comes any day now, and soon.  Ugh, hang in there hon.

  • Hi, I normally lurk but I just wanted to say that I had almost the exact same thing happen at 37 weeks.  I got up from a nap and leaked a ton of clear, odorless fluid all over the floor.  I was having fairly regular Braxton Hicks at that point (which were very uncomfortable, but not "painful").  Went to L&D a few hours later and they confirmed my water hadn't broken.  Now it is almost 2 weeks later and I am having no contractions at all.

I am a nurse and I have two friends at work, both also RNs, who went to be checked twice for thinking their water broke when it hadn't.  It happens.  Slightly embarassing for me though still because I had to call my mom to come watch my toddler while I went to the hospital, and she had called everyone in my family in the meantime (grrr).  Then we had to call back later to tell everyone I wasn't really in labor.  :/

Good luck, hope real labor comes soon for you!

  • That does sound frustrating!  I also can't believe it wasn't your water breaking, what with the puddle and all!  I on the other hand am at my due date today and have hardly felt BH at all so I hate to say it but I wish I was actually having some contractions and things happening!  I know progress is happening because of the doctor, but it'd be nice to feeeeel something.  At the same time if I was feeling all the painful contractions like you are I would definitely be frustrated too!  Seems like we are all unsatisfied with what our bodies are doing and soon enough our babies will be here :)  Hang in there!

  • I'm sorry, but I agree, it sounds like you're getting there.

I feel your frustration. This is the point my water broke with DS. I had no signs and it came out of the blue. I guess I thought that would happen again. Just came from my appointment and my doctor confirmed that I've made absolutely zero progress in both dilation and effacement. I'm slowly resigning to the fact that this time I will be pregnant forever! He's willing to induce if I want to, but I just can't justify that at this point.

Good luck, hope you little girl comes soon!

  • Thanks for the encouragement!!  I actually slept like a baby last night, so that was good:)

I know it can't be long now.  It is just so frustrating to have so many signs, yet no progress at all.  I just hope I recognize the labor when it actually happens.  It will be soon enough for all of us:)

And, by the way, the nurse said it could have been a lot of discharge as well.  Uhhhhhhhh.....pretty sure I didn't have discharge soak my pants and make a puddle around my feet. Haha.

  • Sascha,

I'm not so sure that it wasn't some of your amniotic fluid leaking out. The same thing happened to me the day LO was born. As I said in my birth story post, I got up from my chair that morning and fluid came gushing out. It didn't get on the floor or anything, but soaked my pajama pants. When I got to the hospital, they tested me with that litmus paper stuff and said my water hadn't broken and then did an ultrasound which confirmed that I still had a lot of amniotic fluid. They were considering sending me home when I started progressing very quickly and then of course Matthew was born later that night. My DH was watching the birth and he said that after Matthew came out, a whole bunch of clear fluid came gushing out (which I felt). That must have been the rest of my fluid, so I can only assume that somehow Matthew was blocking the rest of the fluid from coming out.

I know how you feel when you said you feel like you're not going to know when the time is right to go in because I told DH many times in the hospital, "If that wasn't my water breaking, I don't know what is and how will I know?" All I can say to you is to trust your instincts. You know your body better than anyone. If I had listened to the hospital staff and gone home, we would have had to turn right back around and go back because my labor progressed so quickly. Don't be afraid to go back to the hospital if your contractions are consistently coming close together (or when they do).

Hang in there, sweetie. I know how frustrating it is but VERY soon your precious LO will be here and this will all be a distant memory.

  • PsyDr...I KNEW someone had posted a story like that recently and could not remember who said it!  I kept thinking there was a mistake.  But I have not leaked anymore today and the contractions are still consistent today, but lighter and less frequent than yesterday:(

I have my NST scan in the morning again so they can tell me if my fluid level has lowered...it has been high all along.  And hopefully I made a little progress somehow and will see my dr after the NST.

I know she will be here before I know it:)
