I know it's a bit of a longshot, but I am hoping someone might have some information.
DH's work tops him up on paternity leave benefits to 75% of his pay for 10 weeks. We definitely want him to take some leave at some point so it's a good bonus.
I am not going to be taking the whole year--just 7 months total--and since we are supposed to share the weeks, I know we won't go over the allowed number of weeks anyway.
I am wondering if our weeks are allowed to overlap. I read something on the Service Ontario website about him being allowed to be on paternity while I am on pregnancy leave, but can we both be on parental leave at the same time? Pregnancy leave is only the first 15 weeks, so if DH takes that leave when baby is a few months old, we would both be on parental at the same time.
Re: Ontario mat leave question
Fabulous!! Thank you
I am, of course, going to call and ask, but I'm such a planner that I like to figure absolutely everything out ahead of time. I'm already nesting. lol.
Yes I am 99% sure it can overlap I had several co workers who's husbands and them took 6 months each.
DH and I will both be taking time, we just can't decide if we take it together in the beginning (contemplating having the entire summer off he gets 12 weeks at 96%) or me going back at 9 months and him taking 3 months off after.
Thank you!
We can't afford for both of us to take a lot of time off (since I am a supply teacher a lot of the time I would be off anyway) but we really want some time, especially in the beginning, to be off together with the baby.
Yes - EI is a federal thing so the same rules apply everywhere. My principal took 3 weeks concurrently with his wife when their baby was born in September and it came off of the parental leave weeks.
