To the no 'poo ladies

Has anyone made it through and past the "transition"?  I'm on day 13 and so far my hair has just been gross the whole time.  I washed it about 18 hours ago and it's greasy again already.  Back when I used shampoo, I only shampooed every other day!

Any tips?  Should I try more baking soda in my mix? I'm using 1 TBSP to 1 cup of water.  Should I apply the mixture to wet or dry hair?  I'm only applying apple cider vinegar to the ends, not the scalp.

  • I have to go into the office today and I'm freaking out a little, but I think I can make it through with a messy bun.  How long total did you try?

  • I haven't done this, though I've been tempted to try... but from what I've heard, you do need to adjust the "recipe" to suit what your hair needs.

Okay, I'll admit it.  I went 10 days.  Then I shampooed because I ran out of no 'poo and I was already in the shower.  And then I went home and I wasn't about to try to mix up batches while I was on vacation.  My hair never seemed that greasy but maybe that's because I only shampoo it every other day or so anyway.

  • I think I'm about a month and a half, give or take, into no pooing and am past the transition now, I wash about once a week-ish at this point. I use the recipe as stated except I use lemon juice in the rinse instead of vinegar and I only use it on the ends. I know it's hard (and gross) at times but push past it and it will get better.
  • I'm trying to stay strong.  Today I changed the formula to 1.5T of baking soda in 8 oz water, and made extra sure to massage my scalp.  We'll see in about 18 hours if we have progress.

I've decided to commit until I get my first Chicago job interview, which will be at least Feb 1st.  Pretty much don't have anything I have to look presentable for until then. (I also know that it bothers me much more than it actually shows to other people).

  • I made it less than a week.  I could ditto everything TMM said.  Katie kept asking me about my dreads.  I loved how wavy it was, but it wasn't worth it because of how greasy it was!  Once it's time to buy shampoo and conditioner, I'll look at ingredients and choose something organic and call it a day. :)
