June 2011 Moms

I did it. I laid her down drowsy in the crib.

We've never been successful with crib naps with our DD, but then again DH and I never gave it a really good effort either. She was colicky for the first 4 months or so of her life and we were just so thankful whenever we got her to take a nap that we took what we could get. Usually, she naps in our arms, car seat, or stroller.

I rocked her until she had drowsy eyes yesterday and could not get her to sleep in the crib, so I ended up holding her. I tried it again today and I was able to lay her down in the crib and she actually took a 30 minute nap. I couldn't get her to sleep more than that. I tried to shush her back to sleep but she was wide awake. She seems rested though. I'll take what I can get right now and will keep working on it.

Do you think I should try this out for all of her naps each day or just try one nap per day until she gets the hang of it?

  • I would try it each time. It may not always work but it's worth a shot!

  • This gives me hope. DD still won't sleep in her crib, and I am admittedly a bit lazy about forcing it because I'm just happy to have her nap, even if it means on my lap after nursing or in the car seat. I'd keep trying to get her used to it. You've inspired me to attempt the crib again today. :)

  • DD just figured out naps in the crib last week.  I just kept putting her in there.  But she also decided that she would not nap while being held either, she's too nosey.  So I rock her for a minute then put her in, she cries, and as soon as I close the door she rolls over and goes to sleep, it's amazing!
  • I would do it for all naps too just for consistency.  It was a difficult transition for DS to nap in the crib but with a little perserverance he got the hang of it and now his naps have lengthened past that dreaded 30 minute mark.

  • I think I'll try it for 2 out of 3 naps each day. For one nap a day, I like to put her in the jogging stroller and go for a run while she naps. If she's awake, she won't tolerate as long as I need. :)
