My 4-legged child

Anyone else have a 4-legged baby acting crazy since you got pregnant?

My almost 2-year-old dog wants nothing to do with me any more. It used to be that if I sat in the recliner, he jumped in my lap and cuddled with me, and he was my best buddy in the mornngs. Now, he sits as far away from me as possible, and he makes it a point to be as close to DH as possible if he's in the room. WTH dog?!?!?!

Re: My 4-legged child

  • I am having the opposite with my dog. She is constantly by my side. She won't leave me alone. If I shower she's right outside the door, if I go do laundry she follows me down stairs. I took her to my mom's the other week and left her there to run because they have a lot of property, according to my mom she sat by the door and cried so bad the entire time my mom had to bring her back home. I have been out of work and on "modified" bedrest since November and I don't know how she's going to act when I finally have to go back to work in March!

  • My puppy doesn't like to leave my side when we are at home. She cuddles with me, plays with me, if I'm in the shower and MH isn't home she'll sit outside waiting for me... But idk if thats any different than normal. She has always been more of my puppy, but I was already pregnant when we got her. We will see!!

  • Maybe this is the difference between male and female dogs...

Not in my case! My male dog is clinging to me like I am his life source. He's always a mamas boy, but it's gotten worse. :)

  • my two dogs have been slightly more clingy but as I have gotten farther along and I presume they sense something impending/changing they have been even needier with both DH and I and visibly anxious at times.  My smaller dog likes to put her ear on my belly which is adorable.  But animals like us each have personalities, perhaps your dog is looking to your husband for comfort because he senses you have other "priorities" who knows?
  • Same here - I have 2 male pugs and they are at me non-stop, especially in the past month.  They won't leave me alone.  Not that I mind the extra cuddles though :)

  • Well, nuts! He used to be such a mama's boy. :(

  • For the first 6-7 months of my pg my dog, Hans, didn't want anything to do with me unless it involved food or going somewhere.  It was hell, especially because he's my service dog and I depend on him.  He's slowly come around and has been cuddling in bed with me again, and even sitting on my lap when I watch TV (something he hardly ever does).

Don't worry, I'm sure your dog will come around after your LO is born.

Same here. He is always by my side lately. He used to act crazy and pull on his leash on walks and now he is so gentle and stops and waits for me if I start dropping behind. I love my dog baby:)
  • My two furballs have been very clingy and seriously follow me around the house all the time now.  It's erie, they definitely feel a change coming to our household dynamic.
