I also got a letter for jury duty on the 30th of January! But there was a checklist of exemptions on the back and "expectant mother" was on there... So i checked that box and mailed it back. I'm not sure if every State or County has different rules, but you may be exempt due to pregnancy...

Ours has this option as well

That sucks! You'll have to pee so frequently that I bet they let you out of it after the 5th bathroom break! And if it makes you feel better I don't think any attorney would keep you on a jury. I bet you are dismissed if you even get out of the jury pool. Take a pillow, good book, water & snacks. so sorry!

Unfortunately mine doesn't have that option. I'm going to talk to my OB tomorrow to see if she can give me a letter to send back. I was able to get out of it last time with a letter that was explaining about my ovarian cyst (I had an active one and was in a lot of pain).

Just be careful that it doesn't just get deferred to a later date. I would much rather do it 36 weeks pregnant than with a newborn.
I was called for federal jury duty a few weeks ago and would have been on call for possibly coming in the month of December. At the time, I hadn't had any issues, but it was too far from my house for me to get my son to school on time and picked up on time and since H was traveling (sometimes over night and sometimes just day travel) I had nobody that could get him to school or pick him up. Luckily they let me out for that reason - I could not use pregnancy as a reason unless my doctor was willing to write a note saying I should be excused - which she would not do because I was not having any issues.
I was glad I wans't having issues at the time, but then I get diagnosed with GD and have weekly NSTs and weekly appointments with the ob and the mfm and I'm glad I got out when I did. And I think having a newborn would necessitate dismissal as well if it does get postponed. If you are nursing, that is another reason, but with the forms I had that was a medical reason and you could only cite medical reasons if it was supported by a doctor's note.

As unusual as it sounds I have always wanted to do Jury Duty. I finally gut summonded for it and withing two weeks of getting it I found out I was pregnant. Where I am you have a list of optional exemptions and pregnancy is one of them. I just had to include a doctors note. Check with the clerk of court before you go there to waiste your time. The kicker? I was summonded again about 3 months later...
you probably won't have to do it at that point, just wear the clothes that make you look the most pregnant and they probably will dismiss you.
i agree. a trial can go on for weeks and you obviously could deliver at any point at that time. they most likely wont choose you as a juror.
I agree with this. Go in at 36wks pregnant, wearing a nice, tight maternity shirt, and get dismissed/not selected as a juror. That way they won't call you back again in a couple months when you have a newborn to wrangle!
