I have been to two ultrasounds. one at 4w3d due to spotting and one at 5w3d. The OB--who is not my usual OB because she was on call when I had the spotting that sent me to the first--ordered it to check for a heartbeat.
The technician thought this was nuts. There was no hb, as there shouldn't have been. There was a sac, a yolk and a pole and she said I looked just where I should at 5 weeks. But since they didn't see the hb, I have to go back thursday. I'll be 6w5d. Is that when there is absolutely a heartbeat or could I go through a whole week again stressing about whether this pregnancy is going to be viable?

Re: Should you absolutely see the hb at 6 weeks?
If you saw a fetal pole at your last appt, then yes, you should see a heartbeat at 6w5d. I am so sorry you are stressing, but you are right where you need to be so I'm sure things will be just fine!!!
FX for a great appt!
From americanpregnancy website:
5 ? to 6 ? weeks is usually a very good time to detect either a fetal pole or even a fetal heart beat by vaginal ultrasound.

I went in at 6w6d. A heartbeat was detected but it was too faint for us to hear. She was able to measure it and said it was at 120 bpm. I counted it as being a heartbeat and it help relieved a lot of anxiety for me. I go back at 9 weeks to check for a stronger heartbeat.
I'll take a faint HB! I'll take any HB lol!
