I would want to give birth at a birthing center within a hospital. I would try for all natural, but would want meds ASAP if I changed my mind. Basically, I want to be prepared in case anything went wrong, but I would like to go without any intervention, if possible.
Hospital and drugs for me. During my last delivery my hips dislocated so horribly I had to go to physical therapy for over a year and they still kill me at times. So I want my drugs! If they dislocate again during this labor I don't want to feel it.
I don't know yet. I change my mind about it all the time, and I've decided to just allow myself the freedom to continue thinking about it until it's actually time to make a real decision. ?

Absolutely in a hospital. Probably drugs, pain doesn't bother me usually but I've got to imagine I will want an epi eventually. No objection to IV's or a heparin lock being started on my way in the door though, no need for delays messing with that later!
In a hospital that has LDRP's (labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum room all in the same room) and more than likely with an epidural when the time comes. But no IV pain medications. I would like to have the IV placed upon admission so if there is an emergency it is available but I want to avoid any IV narcotics that could sedate the baby after delivery. Epidurals are fine, they don't cross the placenta.
I'm planning on birthing in a hospital with a midwife and doula. The hospital I chose is very natural birth friendly so they have tubs in all the rooms.
I actually fear doctors in Southern California. I'm from a small town in the midwest where doctors still come to your house to treat you and you say Hi at church dinners and community events. It's bizarre for me to think I'd have someone who probably won't even remember two weeks after my birth treating me and my baby and who I may never see again afterwards. The idea of a midwife who still does what I'm used to makes me feel more at ease. And I think that will result in a better/safer birth then being scared or unsure of who's providing my care. Of course the option will always be there if I'm high risk or there's an emergency in labor, but it wouldn't be my first option, and I'll still have my midwife with me if I go to the hospital which will be reassuring.
And my Mom didn't use drugs and said she had a pain free birth both times. I'm hoping that's genetic.
PS- You will all soon learn I am a tree hugging hippie, too. If I could give birth at The Farm, I would. But I live too far away.
DH and I just found out we're pregnant so don't really know what is offered in our area...this is my second though and I know that I want to TRY to have a natural birth..love the water idea....but I want a hospital nearby in case of emergency(had some complications the first time)....I do know that I definitely don't like the way the epidural made me feel so if at all possible NO MEDS...but I'm kind of a wuss so we'll see.....
Re: New Poll
same for me please! Heck, I am now classified as "high risk" and I get the specialist from here on out. Yippee!
