Anyone addicted to Baby Bargains?

I do not put 1 thing on my registry without consulting that book. It's quite unhealthy, I think.

I've used it as a guide. When I see something online or read about it here, I consult that book as well as consumer reports and my friends (more for the practical nature of the item - is it really necessary?). The forums on their site aren't as active but I have found some of those parents on that site helpful.

Not yet, but I have a feeling once we start our registry I will be. My sister said it was the one book she highly recommends we get.

My best friend was due with her baby 2 days ago. As soon as her daughter is here and she makes sure she isn't going to need to buy more baby stuff, she's handing off her copy to me. I cannot wait!

I find it has a lot of good information, but I don't think it is the final word on everything.

For example: It highly suggested not buying any used furniture items. I have to disagree. I will be buying my crib / dresser from craigslist for sure. I have found several cribs online that are in great condition and there is no reason why I shouldn't buy it used. Many of which are models that are still in the stores.

Yes, you should look for defects and to double check and make sure if it was assembled correctly and such, but saying flat out that you shouldn't buy an used crib is play crazy to me.

Tonight I'll be going to look at a Pali crib with matching dresser. It retails for $1200 for both and I'll be paying $350 if I like it in person. It is exactly what I want and there is no reason to buy it new, especially if they'll only use it for a few years. I rather use the rest of the money elsewhere.
