  • I REALLY wanna do this! Just once! I feel like I'd feel so much more happy and at ease knowing that I had a professional come in and thoroughly clean and disinfect my house before the baby comes.

  • I am! Both my mom and my MIL are coming for my baby shower in three weeks, so I want the house really clean for that, and then I'll have someone come again before the baby comes. I'm trying to avoid using harsh cleaning products while I'm pregnant, but I'd really like for the whole bathroom, kitchen and basement floor to be bleached before baby comes.

  • no I can clean my own  house, as can my husband.  We are pretty neat and our house is almost always spotless so I couldn't imagine them having anything to do, plus I have no desire to sit on my butt for a week I gotta do something.

  • I would LOVE for a maid to come, but I need something to keep my mind occupied as I wait for LO.  Cleaning seems to be the right time-passer these days, so I guess I will be the maid, as usual lol.

  • We already have a cleaning lady that comes weekly. I don't have an ounce of "domestication" in me and DH has always known this. I haven't even felt like nesting and the running joke is I wouldn't know what to do.

Haha...if nesting involved cooking, this would apply to me.  When I read about everyone preparing their freezer meals, I feel confused.  I haven't cooked a meal in about a year, so I don't really see a reason to start now:)

Disclaimer:  I did have a cooking binge when my husband and I were living together.  It lasted about a year or so and stopped around the time we got married.  I feel kind of bad...like I tricked him into thinking he would get home cooked meals along with a wife.  I tell him that at least I am a neat freak and our house always looks great:)

  • I wish but no. :-( I have four weeks off before my due date though.  Hopefully that gives me plenty of time to  do both.

  • I'm not planning on having a maid come before LO arrives, but I am definitely  planning on having one come about 3 weeks after. I figured by then DH will be back to work, our initial helpful guests will have come and gone, and it will be time for a deep cleaning that I probably still won't feel like doing!

  • I want one to come. I will work until I go into labor. But dh doesn't want anyone in our house and he's concerned about money. He does clean I just want baseboards cleaned that type of deep cleaning. I'm not very domestic when it comes to cleaning.

  • We have a cleaning lady who comes every other week.  We of course keep up with the general stuff, but twice a month it's SO nice to have the bathrooms scrubbed to a sparkle, the kitchen pristine and the floors all gleaming all at once!

My husband decided to get her when I got pregnant since it's hard for me to keep up with the house, working full time and our grade schooler (pick up, drop off, extracurricular activities, play dates, homework, bath, and getting her to bed every night).  If I weren't constantly on the go just getting ready, working and home from 6am-6pm every day it would be doable, but with a 12 hour day and our daughter...I don't sit until about 9pm every night as it is.  There really is no time to clean aside from weekends and with us living 1 1/2 hours from both of our families, every time there's a function our weekends are pretty much shot!  With the first trimester nausea and fatigue and my having a high risk pregnancy he went right for it -- best.gift.ever (for both of us!).

Anywayyyyy, I highly recommend it just for a good, down to the bones of the house cleaning before the baby is born!   You'll still have daily cleaning, cooking, laundry to do as well as last minute organizing and deserve a little time after all of that to relax a bit and not worry if your baseboards are dust-free  ;-)

  • We have one that comes every other week as well. Love her. She does all the things that I hate to do and that take a long time. Mopping, deep cleaning. Our house is neat so that's all she really has to do. We also give her one task each time to go along with the normal bi-weekly stuff and its working out great in preparation for baby. She soaked and cleaned our blinds, fan blades, etc...She is wonderful!

This. I won't be home for a week before baby because I'm working right up until I go into labor, but even if I was I am not a sit around a do nothing kind of person. I'd clean just to have something to do.

  • When I worked full time, I had one once a month.  Im super clean and a bit OCD, but that sounds like a great idea.  Im on modified bed rest and could use a deep clean before the boys come.   Its awesome coming home to clean bathrooms, floors....the smell of a clean house is ahhhhh.   Thanks for the reminder, I will be doing this!

I CAN clean my own house, but I hate it SO much. I'm definitely not a sit around and do nothing kind of person either, but I've never once cleaned "just to have something to do." :) I don't mind sweeping/swiffering, dusting, vacuuming, organizing, etc, but mopping the floors, cleaning the stove and microwave, and cleaning the bathroom are the absolute worst as far as I'm concerned. (I do it, obviously, I just really hate it.) Knowing me, I'd end up re-organizing and over-decorating the nursery, sorting the baby's clothes, and scrapbooking every second of my pregnancy, and then end up with the cutest nursery ever and and a dirty kitchen counter!

  • IMO - when the nesting hits you will have no choice in the matter. If I would have hired a maid I'm sure I would have re cleaned everything she did because I re cleaned everythign I cleaned everyday for weeks b4 DD was born. Good Luck and your pregnancy picture is very cute!

  • I'll be doing the cleaning my self, I can't have people touching my stuff and I couldn't afford it anyway.  I have to save as much as I can.... I'm sure my mom will be helping me

Thanks!  Yes I don't mind doing some basic things..and do them every few days..a good vacuum downstairs on the tile, where dogs are, and a mop, counters in kitchen and bathroom.but as far as the other things..like baseboards, microwave, window sills, fridge inside, bleaching down bathrooms and tubs and showers etc...that isn't too much fun.

I also cook when not working for hubby but can't see cooking and making freezer meals in advance.  Hubby will consider it a 'leftover' even though it is fresh..just frozen..and Im sure he wont eat it!  So I wont be doing any premade meals either.
