We skipped it altogether. He's had it a few times at daycare but now he's on to the fruits and veggies. Rice cereal doesn't really add anything nutritionally. It's just to get them used to eating solids from a spoon.
I never give it alone but I do mix in his fruits and/or veggies with it. It seems to keep him more satisfied then just the fruits and/or veggies alone. I was told that if you don't use formula the rice cereal and oatmeal have iron so if you just use breast milk then you should you continue with the cereals.

I still give my LO rice cereal and oatmeal because he likes it. I also use it to camoflauge the things he doesn't like yet. He isn't loving turkey on its own, but if I mix it with rice he eats it up.

We do either brown rice or oatmeal with each meal usually. He LOVES oatmeal with fruit purees mixed in for breakfast. I made the brown rice and oatmeal myself and threw it in the freezer. We still have a lot left so I will continue to feed it to him until it's gone.
I give DD rice cereal in the morning mixed with fruit. DD has issues with spitting up so The thickness of the rice cereal helps with that morning meal!
We only use cereal to get him to eat the foods he doesn't really care for by themselves, we started him on veggies (not cereal) and I will give it to him until it's all gone I guess.

I don't usually give it to him on it's own. He has oatmeal mixed with Fruit for breakfast and then at night I usually mix some rice cereal with veggies if it seems like the veggies aren't that filling or to help with the ones he doesn't like (green beans)
I only did rice cereal for a week and then switched to baby oatmeal. She gets it every day with fruit and yogurt for breakfast and sometimes with lunch for the iron since I BF.

I give DS oatmeal or barley in the morning with half a banana mashed in, or a couple cubes of apple, pear, or blueberry. I don't see us stopping that any time soon.
