what are you making for dinner tonight?

I want to ring in this awesome year right and make a yummy meal tonight (HA!  That rhymed Wink).  I need some ideas.  Besides the obvious black eyes peas (I can't afford any more bad luck!) what are you making for your New Years dinner?

Re: what are you making for dinner tonight?

  • Nothing fancy here.  We're making spaghetti w/ meat sauce and garlic bread.  I'm in freezer meal mode, so we're eating a lot of stuff that can easily be doubled and then frozen.

  • Hmm.  Good question. I have some polish sausage at home in the fridge; We'll probably grill that and eat it with some black eyed peas, corn and spinach..
  • DH is grilling ribs. Baked potatoes and spinach to accompany!

  • We're having an early birthday party for my Dad (his is tomorrow) and me. We're grilling burgers and hotdogs. Serving it with all the fixings plus Ranch beans and chips.

I'm also making this AWESOME lemon bundt cake and serving it with fresh blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

Last night we had brisket that I made in the slow cooker:

    2-3 lb brisket
    1 onion, cut in chunks
    salt and pepper
    1 cup of red wine

    1. Rub the brisket with a generous amount of S&P. Lay in the slow cooker, fat side up. Top with chopped onions and pour wine over meat.

    2. Cook on low for 9-10 hours.

    3. Once cooked, allow to cool and then shred or slice. Use the meat for tacos, sandwiches, or just devour with your fingers like I did last night (straight out of the pot!)

  • Oh! I also took the juice from the meat left in the crock, strained it and then added sauteed cremini mushrooms and sour cream. I served that over egg noodles for a quick and flipping delicious mushroom Stroganoff.
  • For some reason we're feeling like eating a good German dinner tonight, so we're having Knackwurst, Rotkohl (red cabbage), Reibekuchen (potato pancakes), black-eyed peas, rye bread, and cherry pie. Not entirely German, but you have to have black-eyes on New Year's!

  • We are going to the inlaws tonight but we typically do all the traditional New Year's foods.  I found this New Years Day Queso that has all the traditional stuff in it including black eyed peas and collard greens and am making it.  It sounds good and different!
