Pumpers, a question about your nips.

Hello fellow cows. Wondering if any of you have had this happen too? So I have been pumping since DS was born, no changes in suction, equipments, etc. Today after a regular session, I looked down and noticed tiny purple spots on my nips only (known as petichiae in med speak, which are tiny capillary breaks). Anyone else? Not too sore. Thinking I'll call an LC tomorrow.

Re: Pumpers, a question about your nips.

  • no, i've never had this.  i do have spots where milk comes out of my aerolas (something new with dd2 that i didn't have with dd1), but no broken capillaries -- yet.

Nope. Def not bruises. Distinct purple pinpoint spots. But ouch! Bruises sound awful you poor mama.

So strange! I'm trying to imagine milk from aerolas...
  • I don't pump as a norm but do have the same thing after I pump.  I thought it might be a case of mild vasospam.  Here's an article about it from kellymom.

I get that right after I pump.
  • I just finished EPing (met my goal! YAY!). Mine always looked purple-ish after I was done. Not bruised, but purple spots, like you said. Mine were only the nipples, not the areola. When my supply started dropping, it got worse and eventually kind of hurt, so I knew it was time to stop.

Hmm interesting. Maybe that is what's going on. Part of me hopes so but I think I'd be irrationally sad too. Thanks for the info.

Mine are darker, and one is purpleish after pumping.

But, more importantly, I just LOL'd at the bolded part.  I needed that tonight.

Big Smile  True story. While walking down the hall to pump this morning at work, a coworker said to me, "Geez, it's a regular dairy farm around here!".  She is right though, there are currently five of us pumping.

Me, too. Weird! No purple dots, though. If they don't hurt, I guess it's not worth worrying about?
