The airline might lose it. I'm glad I only paid $40 for the Cosco car seat we decided to take to California with us. It traveled extremely well and was easy to install in the car we rented (and in our jeep too). Unfortunately it didn't appear on the baggage carousel yesterday with the rest of our luggage. I'm glad it was spare.

Re: Reason #1 to travel with a spare carseat
I could have just carried it with me to the gate and gate checked it like I have done every other time. But since K was traveling with us I was actually trying to make things easier (for her - lol!) by checking it with my bags. Oh well. At least now I know that every airline office has spare car seats should a car seat get lost.
Yea, why do we make things easier for our SOs and not ourselves?
I refuse to drag that heavy a$$ Marathon to the gate. I can't wait until they are reliable in their booster seats (they meet height/weight for them, just not the ability to sit still!) Hope they find your Scenera. Do you have to return the airlines seat?
Why do we do that? I (half) joking told K that next time we go somewhere I'm taking the kid and flying separately. It might sound odd to some people but it was much easier traveling with DD by myself.
Fortunately they lost it on the trip back here and we had the Britax Advocate in the car so I didn't have to borrow one. If the car seat shows up in the next five days they will deliver it to my house. If it doesn't show up then they reimburse the cost of the seat and I get a $50 travel voucher.
aww man you were in CALI where wish I knew I would have loved to try to get together... poop
and Yikes bout the car seat we are flying to HI with the girls in April and this is now in my head.

It was a whirlwind of a trip. Unfortunately I didn't have time for friends this time but hopefully next trip I will.
What type of stroller do you use? If the girls are still in infant carriers and you hook those to the stroller you can just take the entire setup to the gate and check it there. Then they bring it back to you when you get off the plane. Super easy that way.
