Breastfeeding

XP- I think DD just weaned herself. Kind of in shock. :-(

I know, it's a good time for it, and I was planning to wean her over the next month or two, but wow. Way to kick momma to the curb, kiddo. We've been pushing the WCM in sippies for the past two weeks with minimal success, but suddenly yesterday and today she started giving it to herself (instead of us holding/offering) during her meals. She's also been taking more solids at her meals and snacks. Last night instead of nursing she touched her lips to me a few times, then turned her head. Then she bit me about 3 times, and I said "ouch" but not loudly or angrily. She cried each time, though. Then we switched sides and she nursed to sleep. This morning she did the "touch, turn away" thing a bunch of times before nursing for a while. She refused before her afternoon nap. (We were down to morning, afternoon nap, and bedtime.)

I just went to put her down to bed and she refused. Tucked her little head against my side, snuggled up, but wouldn't even try to latch. I put her in her crib and two minutes later she's fast asleep.

I should be happy, right? I kind of feel like I got dumped on my way to break up with someone. Like, wait- that wasn't supposed to happen! I'm a little sad....

  • DD has refused to nurse the last few nights before bed as well, but she still nurses well in the AM.  It makes me sad too.

  • DS went through a few days where he didn't want to nurse before bed. Then all of a sudden last week he was like a newborn, on me every 2 or 3 hours and for an hour before bed.

With that said, I was also sad and would be sad if he weaned himself that fast!

  • I can imagine that would be sad.  My son turns 1 next month, and I'd always only planned to nurse until his first birthday.  I'll start weaning then, and it makes me sad just thinking about it!  :-(

    Hugs!

  • :/ I understand.  I haven't nursed my twin 15 month old boys in 3 days.  (we had been slowly weaning, so, ) :/ Only one has come up to me in that time to say "more" and pull on my shirt, but it was not at a time we would normally nurse so I said "all gone"...now I am pretty sure it really is all gone. I'm a little sad :/
God gave me a double portion for my inheritance with my little Mighty men :) 9/19/10 Baby A born at 1:47 am 6lbs 14oz, 20.5inches long. Baby B born at 3:20 am 6lbs 6oz, 19.5inches long. My double blessing!:)

  • We're almost done weaning here - her first birthday is next week.  I've actually retired one boob and am just feeding her for a few minutes a night off my right boob. She sucked for a few minutes then bit me last night.

Anyway, maybe cut out your morning and day sessions and try to do it again before bed. Can't hurt to still try if you want, right? She could have just been fussy. If she won't take it after offering for a few days, you could be done.

And it's sad b/c they're growing up so fast but you've done so great making it this far! Congrats!
