DS is a very, very, very busy and curious boy and in a fit of budget mindfulness (read: perhaps one of the more short-sided decisions we've made recently; it wasn't a super expensive flight), we decided not to get him his own seat for an upcoming 2.5 hr plane trip. I need some good ideas for toys that will fit in the diaper bag and keep DS busy. It's been 3 months or so since our last plane trip and it was a disaster trying to keep him in our seats. I'm so dreading this!!

Re: S/O Amazing toy recs to keep 15 mos occupied on plane
We flew with DD at 14 months. Honestly, on the flight out, not a single toy or book worked. What DID work was letting her slowly shred the in-flight magazine. After that we were golden.
On the way back she slept
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I flew alone few weeks ago with my DD on a 6 hr flight and these were my tricks that worked for me.
DONT FLAME ME! Before take off I gave her a small dose of Tylenol. Mostly b/c we were cutting molars and we moody to start with.
For take off and landing I gave DD the baby food pouches to suck on, she took 6 of them between take off and landing. DD isn't good a downing a sippy cup so this was my way of making sure her ears weren't a problem.
Coloring book and crayons, it was the first time she really did it.
ipad or dvd player. we watched 1 or 2 episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, mostly to calm down to fall asleep.
A TON of snacks
Good luck. I was super anxious going into it but it was easy and would do it again.
Make a pregnancy ticker
We just flew 6000 miles (16 hour/2 flight journey) with an 18 month old. I packed stacking cups, a old formula dispenser that he could put pom poms in (he loves to do that), some books and some cars. He slept for a good portion of the flights (thank goodness) and we were lucky to have bulk head seats so he could sit on the ground etc. Make sure you have snacks, bottle/sippy cup/pacifier etc. easily available.
Except for the whining the last 2 hours of the flight he did really well.
DS was younger the last time we flew, but honestly, our iphones and snacks were the best things we brought. I brought a big comfy blanket to make him a nice nest on my lap and he sat there and munched on goldfish and watched Yo Gabba Gabba until he fell asleep.
I hear that stickers and the travel magna doodle. The pom pom idea would go over GREAT with our little one...he loves nothing more than putting change into his piggy bank, so that would be a good alternative.
