favorite protein sources?

I need some more protein ideas for LO.  We're doing a combo of purees & chewables for each meal.  We've got lots of veggies and fruits and are also pretty good on the grains. Dairy wise we've only done cottage cheese and we have not done any meat yet. We've had a fair problem with constipation, so I've been steering away from proteins like lentils (but am very open to suggestions to make these easier to digest).  Have most of you just jumped right in with the meats?  Any other ideas?

  • I pureed some turkey for his first meats.  Now, he can gum small bits of chicken, turkey, and ground beef.  I do mix his vegetable puree with quinoa now, which has protein in it.  He hates plain purees anyway now, so this adds some texture to it.  Double score!

  • yogurt, cottage cheese, black beans, tofu, very small soft pieces of shredded turkey or chicken.

I also recently made white bean chicken chili for myself and mashed the white beans and the chicken together and she liked that. It wasn't very spicy.

  • DD loves black beans too, but her poop was OUT OF CONTROL after that.. so we took a break.  DD has had chicken peices, turkey, ham, some meatballs, did not like my meat loaf... I have some edamame and forgot about it... good idea, cheese....she can have everything we eat as long as it is not crazy salty or sugary.  Also, a lot of babies like a little spice.
