Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

anyone know how to read lab test results?

I'm going to call the dr. too, but i just got a copy of DD's lab results in the mail. they did 7 different tests, and it lists the test name then says "In Range" PENDING for all of them but one says "in range" INFANT. what does pending mean, why would they send the results with actual results?

Re: anyone know how to read lab test results?

  • I am guessing this is for bloodwork.  I am not positive, but I do know that it takes longer for certain results to get back...maybe they wanted to give you the first results and will send you the rest when they get them in.  My pedi's office called me with ours.

  • sorry, yes its for bloodwork. It looks like the last test does have a score, so that must be the answer. Ofcourse I already goodled the last test and the score doesn't look good you should NEVER google illness it just always makes me worry before I should.
  • Sounds like they don't have all the results in yet.
  • Many tests take a certain amount of time before results are back. I would guess that the one that says 'infant' is back and normal but the others aren't back yet. I think it is strange that they didn't wait for all the results to be back especially since that one is normal, but maybe they automatically send as soon as a result gets back?
  • Some labs are not done at local clinics; they have to be shipped to specialty labs. Not to be nosy, but what are they looking for? Are these normal tests like CBC, Chem 7, or are these specific tests that are looking for an illness like arthritis?

  • any info you can give me on them is great. they are: celiac disease comprehensive panel, tissue transglutaminase antibody, IGA (this is the one that says INFANT) Immunoglobulin A, gliadin Antibody (IGA), comp. metabolic panel, TSH, T4 total, T4 Free,SED rate by modified westergrn (this one says it is above range), CBC includes DIFF/PLT.
  • she hasn't gained any weight (well a few ounces) in almost a year so they are trying to find out why. She's 20lbs, but has been for 12 months. We have an appt with a nutritionalist in the new yr but she eats just fine for a 20 mo old. she has gotten taller at least. she also has problems with her BM's right now she takes miralax and we took her off cows milk about 2 months ago to see if that helps. it helped with the BM's but still no weight gain. My DH has a GI issue they can't figure out so her dr ordered the tests to see if anything is going on with DD.
