NBR...Themed Yearly Christmas Gifts

Every year I receive a hand picked gift from my husbands grandmother who I adore and love dearly.  However the gift I get every single year is cat themed.  I have 2 cats and somehow she seems to think that because I have cats I would love cat themed things (I ldo not want cat themed things!!!).  It is now a family funny and there is the anticipation as to what will I receive this year....I have become a pro at faking my enthusiasm because I love her dearly and just cannot break her heart as she is so happy and proud every year. 

This year is a kitchen hot mitt, pot holder and kitchen towel and a rug that has cats all over it.  YAY me....hehe.  Oh and my husband got $40, most of the other girls get pretty bracelets, scarves, etc.  It really doesn't matter to me though as I get a good chuckle every year.

Anyone else get themed gifts every year?

    Not quite the same thing, but FIL and his wife seem to think it's appropriate to get the same thing for everyone in the family.  This year, FIL got all the guys siphons.  He explained that it's something that every guy should have in their tool set, but all the guys just scratched their heads and wondered when they'd ever need one.  FIL's wife got all the girls matching Christmas socks.  Although it's a nice gesture, I'll probably only wear mine at Christmas because I'm not a sock person.  I wear slip-ons year round.

    I usually get some sort of cold weather gear - since I am always freezing I get scarves, gloves, hat, etc.
    surprise BFP 7/12/05 = missed m/c and D&C 9/28/05; TTC since 10/06; 1/16/08-D&C to remove bicournate uterus; 4 IUI's = BFN, 2 IVF's = BFFN. 8/5/09 Surprise BFP!! = another missed m/c and d&c 9/28/09 IVF #3 May 2010 = BFP!!!!  Beautiful DD born 1/16/2012.  8/1/13 Surprise BFP!!!  EDD 4/13/14.

    Growing up, every year my grandmother (dads mom) got me a cross, or angel, jewelry or religious item. She was very heavy christian, but my mother was raising me rather agnostic. I was the only grandchild she got these religious items for. Yay me. All the other girls got things for their hope chests, like table wear, silver wear, dishes, things to put away for their "someday" weddings.... I actually felt left out for not getting a nice set of china. Sad Now with her gone, i wish I still had some of that stuff she gave me.

    So, yeah, cat themed, but you never know, someday you may want to pull it out to use or give to your kids. At least the kitchen stuff is useful. And you could likely put together a whole set of cat themed coffie mugs at some point.

    My husband and I buy a tacky Christmas ornament every year for our tree. Well, I made the mistake of telling this to my Grandma who took it to mean that SHE should also buy us ornaments that she thinks are tacky, but she doesn't get it at all. At least if they were tacky it would be alright, but they aren't at all, they are just stupid. She then told my aunt about it who now sends us three or four ugly ornaments (again, not tacky just ugly) she found at the thrift store every year. And it doesn't matter how many times we tell them nicely that we actually buy our OWN ornament, they keep doing it. So annoying.
