So DH and I recently moved to a new town (due to the military) and I made an appointment with my new Gyno, first to meet her and also because I was due for my yearly exam. Well we started talking and of course I told her DH & I were TTC but had just started (we're only on month 2).....well she immediately decided to do a full panel of blood work on me (check glucolse, thyroid, progestrone, ect) as well prescribe me a daily dose of mucinex and tell me that I should not be using PreSeed because it has been known to cause cancer. Then she told me that she would highly suggest DH make an appointment to get an SA.
Ugh.....although I appreciate her being proactive, I'm not sure I agree with all of her opinions. I asked her why she felt all this was neccessary when we have only been trying a month and she said "well it's better to just know what the situation is". I partly agree with her but at the same time I don't fully agree. DH is completely against getting a SA at this stage in the game and I feel like the Dr wanting to do all this maybe stressing us both out some.....but she is the Dr and I also feel silly to argue with her or tell her I don't agree with her.
WWYD?

She prescribed a daily dose of mucinex? For what purpose? Pre-seed caused cancer? What kind of cancer? I'd love to see that study.
You can deny any medical treatement. You do not have to do anything she is suggesting you do. Because of the above questions I'd probably try out another OB. Besides the testing which is just ridiculous this yearly but whatever, I think the mucinex and preseed comments are just stupid.
I think its a personal choice. She can give you the options but its your choice whether or not its the right time or the right thing to do. If I were you, I'd be a little taken aback and let her know that you intend to go it on your own before resulting to testing.
My DR DX me with PCOS and told me to come back in 3 months if we weren't PG. I told him that I was uncomfortable with coming back so soon. And he just responded, whatever you feel most comfortable with. I like being given the option but I like to know I can make my own decision.

This. OB/GYns (on the whole) know jack-sh*t about getting women pregnant. Go to a new DR.
MD or not it is your body and YOU have the ultimate decision as to what you do and don't do.
It is way too early and there is no medical need.
*this* ... I like it when they give me all my options and tell me what they are thinking...but you gotta do what's right for you, and I feel like he's jumping the gun on it! .. If that's your gut reaction.... you might wanna try to find a new OB.

This. That OB's advice seems a little overboard to me.
I would try a new DR. I know being military makes it hard. My husband is AF and I didn't go to the dentist for about 3 years because of all the moving, I paid for it later and my teeth are all just fine but the cleaning was brutal! Anyone I have only heard positive things about preseed, the ingredients aren't anything crazy. Also I would like to know why mucinex too?
I have a doctor like this, overly thourough. I was in for something else and just mentioned that I was having a little difficulty swallowing. Not severe, not to the point I thought I would choke, but enough to be annoying.
He wanted to send me for an ultrasound of my throat. I waited a few days, it turned into a sore throat and after days after that it was gone. I appreciate that he didn't blow it off, but I really didn't have time to go get an U/S done for what was probably allergies. You know your body better than your doc does, if you feel it's too soon for any of that (which I would agree) then don't do it and think about looking for a new doctor.

Thanks ladies for all your responses and opinions. It's kind of hard to just get a new doctor on base but I could look off base (we don't live on base). This OB/GYN has a lot of good reviews and other wives I've talked to really like her but agree that she tends to be too through.
I did allow her to do the bloodwork because I figured it would be good just to have a baseline.....it's also been awhile since I've had bloodwork. She prescribed the the mucinex because she said a lot of women have CM that is healthy but too thick for sperm to swim through....I told her that I have good EWCM right around O and showed her my 1 chart (like I said we just started TTC) but she said taking it wouldn't hurt anyways. However, I'm not on board with taking meds I don't need so I'm just not going to fill the scrpit.
As far as PreSeed, she said there was a big study on "methyl and propyl parabeins" causing cancer in women and that PreSeed had both of those ingredients....however, I wasn't able to find the study online and I think DH & I will continue to use it as needed.
I understand DH not being ready for an SA yet either and I do agree with him. So I think we'll just forget about her "advice" on the tests and see what happens over the next few months. Maybe if we're still not successful in another 6+ months, we'll revisit the idea of a SA.
Thanks again!
