I went to the doctor today, and my lab work showed that I have elevated cholesterol. I haven't eaten meat in over 20 years, and my cholesterol has never, ever been anywhere near 200. (It was 209.) I asked whether there was any correlation between breast feeding & high cholesterol. The answer was no. My intuition said to look it up, and sure enough, yes, elevated cholesterol is normal for nursing women. Just passing it along...

Re: High cholesterol & BF
This! It's also common to be elevated in women who are pregnant. DH and I were getting life insurance while I was pregnant and we each had to have a physical. I was surprised at how high my cholesterol was since I eat healthy, and limit my meat intake (mostly poultry, 1-2 days a week). I talked to my MW about it, and she said that high cholesterol is common in pregnant and lactating women.
Hey! OP!! Your daughter's middle name is the same as my daughter's! Never seen anybody else called that before! Good choice!
You posting this probably just saved me a ton of money. Our work provides discounts on insurance based on cholesterol, BP, etc and I tested with high cholesterol and didn't qualify. If I can get my OBGYN to write a letter stating I have a medical reason for it, I can get the discount.
Thank you so, so much!!
Our babies need cholesterol to grow their brains- it's so good for them! I have read that some medical professionals believe slightly elevated cholesterol (200-215) is perfectly healthy in women of child bearing age.
