So I'm planning on weaning my one year old who's always beeen EBF. I'm expecting baby number 2 this summer and my LO is still getting up to nurse etc.
I know she's not going to wean herself anytime soon. She wants to nurse all the time.
Any suggestion???
Re: weaning a ebf baby!! HOW??
Are you giving her WCM? DS has been nursing less because he's getting milk, though still probably 3-4x a day and at least once overnight (he is teething - he was STTN but not the past week). I'm just doing the "don't offer, don't refuse" method. I give him WCM first but if he's really wanting to nurse, I let him (I'll try to just do one side, that it sometimes enough to satisfy him during the day).
My goal was to drop 1 nursing session/week but I've been lazy about being consistent, and like I said, he's teething so I don't want to take away that comfort right now. Your LO may also start to self wean if your milk changes since you're pregnant.
This is not a popular opinion I'm sure - but when I weaned my 1st DD I switched her to a bottle, and replaced one session/day for a week, then 2 sessions the following week, and so on until she was completely on the bottle. And I started mixing 1/2 bm 1/2 WCM to get her used to it. I weaned her from the bottle at around 18 months.
With DD#2, by a year she wasn't really that interested in nursing, but refused to take the bottle either. I just stopped nursing her gradually (going down in # of times I'd nurse her in a day - until it was just the evening feed left). She was taking a sippy quite well at this point, and one day I stopped nursing all together and only offered WCM in a sippy (didn't mix it with BM). It took her about a week of not really liking it or drinking it - but now she loves it.

We weaned slowly over a month. Middle of the night feeding was the first to go. For that, we gave her a sippy of water instead and let her scream for a little bit, but she went back to sleep. After 4 days she wasn't waking up at night any more.
For the day time weaning we just dropped 1 feeding per week, starting with one mid-day which wasn't as "important" and ending with the one right before bed. Since we only dropped 1 feeding per week it wasn't much of a shock to her (or my boobs). Just make sure you give her plenty of other liquids and an extra snack to fill the void. If you KNOW she's not hungry or thirsty it makes it easier.
