What are you cooking/baking/eating for Christmas?

I'm making white chili for Christmas Eve (thanks for the recipe Wendy!).  We'll have salad and Tastefully Simple beer bread with it.  I think my Mom is bringing a dessert or we'll just gorge on cookies.

I'm making sausage gravy & biscuits Christmas morning for us and the ILs.

Tomorrow I'm making chocolate chip & sugar cookies to leave out for Santa ;)

ETA: And Monday I'm making pot roast and crescent rolls for lunch/dinner and having our friends over.

Re: What are you cooking/baking/eating for Christmas?

  • DH and his brother are having a prime rib cook-off for Christmas Eve @ his parents, so DH will be busy cooking that up tomorrow. His mom goes WAY overboard with Christmas, both food and presents, so there will be a TON of stuff but I am never sure exactly what to expect.

I am making tater tot casserole and chocolate waffles for Christmas morning, with a side of cookies I am sure.

Dinner on Christmas w/ my grandma will be turkey dinner and I can't wait, I love turkey. Then Dinner #2 with my aunt is usually some sort of chicken dish.

We will see how DD does with all this stuff, because last year she slept until about 6:30 or 7 pm and then screamed bloody murder until approximately 11:30 when we got home and laid her in her crib. One of DH's cousins commented, "Well I guess our Christmas won't be nice and quiet anymore" and I wanted to crawl in a hole and die at that point so whatever.

  • Christmas Eve we are having ham(if I get to the store to buy one), mashed potatoes, corn, baby carrots

Christmas morning :French toast casserole, fried ham, potatoes, polish sausage(for dh and my dad), nutroll

Dinner:cheese as an appetizer with beer bread and dip, beef tenderloin with a red wine sauce, lyonaisse potatoes, baby carrots, green bean casserole.  Dessert will be cookies and cake

  • Friday: I'm in charge of making lasagna and cheesy garlic bread.  Others will do the appetizers, salad, and dessert.

Saturday: Probably making pretzels at my MIL's for a snack.  Making cinnamon rolls ahead of time for my mom's on Christmas morning.  Also making the dinner rolls for Christmas dinner.

Sunday:  Whatever my mom needs help with while we're at their house.

  • Christmas Eve we'll have sauerkraut and mushroom pierogi (that I made myself, woo!), and various kinds of fish.  No meat allowed on Christmas Eve in my family.

Christmas morning we'll have a Polish breakfast, which is things like kielbasa, soft boiled eggs, and this really good potato salad. We'll also have Pillsbury cinnamon rolls.

Christmas dinner will be ham, spaghetti squash gratin, shingled roasted potatoes, and wilted spinach.  We have Christmas cookies, and I'm going to make a yellow cake with chocolate frosting that is dairy free just for me.

  • i'm taking the day off of work tomorrow to get all my baking done- and my mom is greciously letting me use her brand new kitchen- well i just need the stove she has two racks i only have one, i still will lug my kitchenaid mixer, my pans, spatulas, cooling racks... etc to her house.

as usual it was requested of me to make my grant aunt's cheese cake. i'll make the crust firist thing, then the filling and then let it cool and make the topping after i finish my cookies... i'm secretly hoping my mom will lend a hand esp with the cheese cake considering she'll probably eat half of it over the next week.

my aunt suggested we do the cookie exchange instead of present exchange again, there are 5 participants this year (including myself) so i have to make 4 doz (or more if i want any)

i had originally planned on making those melting snowman cookies i've seen on pinterest but making 4 doz of them did not seem like fun. i hardly want to be decorating all damn day so i am splitting my doz per person for the exchange into thirds, 4 of the melted snowman, 4 pumpkin cookies (that i have a mix for) and 4 reg sugar cookies (pre cut ones- i'm being lazy) but i will decorate the sugar cookes with red and green sugar crystals- i'm thinking about making a stencil to make the cookies look like peppermint candies

i also bought pretty holiday cupcake wappers, chocolate cake, white frosting and silver sugar crystals... not that we need cupcakes-lol... but i'll probaby back those tonight and frost tomorrow- WTH it's the holiday season!

dinner is ordered from amici's, though my mom called my brother with the menu i have to call him and adjust it. i know she didn't order anything for M and i want my favorite salad from there, but we have penne vodka, lasagna, sasauge peppers & onions.  my aunt supposedily told my mom she was making a dessert (though her children are the ones that specifically asked me for the damn cheesecake) and she is bringing an antipasto. i showed my mom the photo from pinterest of the cheesetray displayed in a christmas tree shape and she showed that to my dad and he's really excited to try and make that- no holiday is complete at our house without a ginormous cheese tray!

that's all for x-mas eve... we'll be eating leftovers x-mas day!

  • I'm a little sad that we're not doing my family's traditional foods this year, but we're excited about making new recipes.  We're having filet mignon, roasted cauliflower, and a new stuffing recipe DH wants to try for Christmas Eve, probably with a cheesecake from Sam's Club for dessert.  On Christmas, we'll have homemade cinnamon rolls and are just doing a pasta dinner with green beans and garlic bread.
  • My mom is doing dinner both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday we're having spare ribs with mashed potatos, corn, carrots, and I'm making broccoli casserole.

On Sunday DH and I are making a breakfast casserole since we have limited time to eat before his mom shows up. We'll make it on Saturday and stick it in the oven while we are opening gifts.

For dinner my mom is making our traditional ham that we will make sandwiches out of. Then potato salad and pasta salads to go with it. When I was a kid we had two dinners on Christmas. My family got stuck in the middle and had to do both sides on Christmas. My grandmother always did a ham for sandwiches and salads since we ate so late by the time my family got there. It's sentimental to me and we have done it every year even after my grandmother passed. So I was happy that my mom is doing it this year even though it's just her and my family of three for dinner this year.

  • I think my Mom said for Xmas eve she's making stuffed pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, salad and some other sides.

Xmas morning we'll have cinnamon rolls and maybe eggs/bacon for breakfast. No idea for dinner-we'll be at ILs doing gifts and MIL said she'll do appetizers that day.

My Dad is coming here Mon and I'm just doing snacky things-cheese/crackers, chips and dip, pizza, cookies. Our real Xmas dinner with ILs is Monday and they go all out-every year they do steak and shrimp scampi along  with a billion other apps and side dishes.

  • Christmas Eve: Making shrimp scampi and strawberry/poppyseed/field greens salad.  Mom is making a pistachio cake and cookies.

Christmas morning: Cin. rolls, shrimp cocktail for late morning and then off to ILs for turkey and ham.  We are bringing chocolate fondue *with strawberries, pineapple, marshmallows and graham crackers for dipping

  • Christmas Eve we are just doing appetizers and snacky stuff. Hummus, cheese and crackers/bread, shrimp, stuffed mushroom etc. All with some wine and maybe spiked egg nog!

Christmas morning I will bake some cinnamon buns (make the dough the night before and proof the dough in the morning) and maybe an egg bake too.

Christmas day I still don't know what I'll contribute to the meal... maybe just an appetizer and some cupcakes.

  • I'm making white turkey chili for Christmas Eve. We'll have salad, veggies and dip, crusty bread and tortilla chips with it. Besides cookies, there will be eggnog cupcakes for dessert.

Sunday morning, I'll make Cars shaped pancakes. DH talked about making bacon and eggs, too. I think we're having either roast beef or prime rib for dinner. I'm bringing dessert (Sweetapolita's Campfire Delight). I can't enter my brother's house without it lately, it seems.

After that, who knows. I probably will do more grocery shopping on Monday once I know how many times we'll actually be home to eat dinner next week.
