Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Does she have her days and nights mixed up?

For the past few nights DD has been up every 2 hours and last night was up fussing/eating from 3am-6am. She always seems famished at night. However, during the day, she sleeps 3-4 hours stretches and I often have to wake her around the 4 hour point to eat. She's a preemie so she sleeps a TON but it seems like she sleeps longer stretches and sounder during the day. Do you think maybe she is eating all night and then sleeping all day instead of doing the opposite? I am attempting to wake her every 2-3 hours today to see if that changes anything for tonight. Anyone else in the same boat?

  • DS was also a preemie and did the same thing. He did have his days and nights mixed up. I can only tell you that it will get better. They figure it out. Hang in there.

Like PP said- Open the blinds/turn on the lights/continue with regular (noisy) activities during the day. And at night, minimize talking, dim lights, immediately to bed.

I know a lot of people don't like to give their LO's baths everyday, but I did. I bathed her a night before bedtime and it got her into an amazing routine. She realized the difference between days/nights very quick. We bath, diaper/pjs/lotion, bottle, bed. Every single night-- in that order.

We did the same routine with DS, we just didnt start until 6 weeks or so.  I guess its never really too early to start. And her umbilical cord finally fell off so I'm actually able to bathe her now (not just a sponge bath).

Thanks for the suggestions though ladies. I woke her up and fed her all day..hoping tonight goes better! :)
