Baby Names

Vada

So were not pregnant yet.. just fantasizing about future baby names.

I am really liking Vada lately. I love how its short and sweet and not very popular. And yes like the movie "My Girl". It was one of my favourite movies growing up and I still love it, is it really that bad to name a child after a movie character?

I am a little concerned that the name may not be the easiest to spell or pronounce. I was also considering the spelling Veda. Ive also seen Vayda but Im not sure what I think about this spelling yet.

What do you think, will this be a difficult name for a child to have? Do you like it?

  • I looked up the name on behindthename.com and Vada wasn't listed, so most likely the correct spelling is Veda.

Its a great name though! Beautiful, yet underused, can't get better!

  • I would pronounce Vada Vah-dah.  I much prefer Veda.  I think it's a VERY pretty name.  I would consider it but it sounds weird with Nina.  But, very pretty.

  • I love My Girl and love the name! I'd go with Veda. Definitely not Vayda/Veyda.

  • I love this name. I just wish DH was onboard.  I know they spelled it Vada in the movie, but I would go with Veda.  I think it is prettier.

  • All spelling versions are way way too close to "Vader" for me.  I'd be humming the theme song from Empire Strikes Back every time I saw the kid.

Agree. And Vada looks like vadar, as in Darth. I can see the appeal of this name. It's not my fav but I give it a thumbs up.

Ha yes, this was my first thought too. Darth Vada (pronounced Boston style, of course).

That aside, I think it's pretty, and I like that it's unusual.

  • I love that name too!  My husband said no because it sounds like Beta (fish).  Now that's all I can think of when I hear it.  He also shot down Carys because it sounds like carrots:)  He keeps ruining perfectly good names for me.
