Hi Everybody. It's my first time posting on this board. I am a pregnant first time working mom, and I plan to return to work full time after my baby is born. I always figured that one day, after I became a parent, I would hire somebody to clean my house once or week, or even once every other week. It's not that I'm lazy. It's just that I figure, if I'm spending my days away from my child, then I want to spend as much quality time with his or her when I am home. I also would like to keep exercising because I think that's important, and overall do fun quality things like going to the park or for a hike. Has anybody else done this or had any experience? If so, how did you find somebody to clean your house? I'm a little nervous about bringing someone who I will probably not know into my house when I am not home. There's a part of me that likes to pinch pennies and save that doesn't want to hire a helper, but I also want to stay sane and be with my child/children and I feel that would probably be the healthiest for us both. I welcome any thoughts on the subject!

Re: house cleaner?
I agree that word of mouth is probably the best for a house cleaner because you really need to be able to trust someone in your home.
My dad has a hardwood flooring company and one of his worker's wives cleans houses so we use her occasionally and she's great. We pay her $60.00 whenever she comes and she cleans for about 3-4 hours. She does a great job. I think I'll definitely be having her come over while I'm on maternity leave about once a week. There are times when I go without using her at all for several months and she's ok with that.

Do it. If you can fit it in your budget, it's the best thing you'll ever do. I don't fight with my husband about cleaning the house anymore, and I don't clean toilets anymore. It's wonderful.
We just have a cleaning lady that we found through some friends. We don't use a service. Just ask around with other people you know to see if they have recommendations. We pay ours $60 every 2 weeks. We trust her completely now (she's been cleaning for us for over a year) - we've even used her as a babysitter! She comes when we're not here, and it isn't an issue at all.
I've had a housekeeper for about 3 years now. Thankfully, she cleaned for my ILs first so I knew we could trust her. Maybe you could hire someone while you are on maternity leave and have them start cleaning while you are on leave so you are there, can get to know them and then feel more comfortable.
I love having her even though she doesn't do near as good of a job as I do. She only comes every other week, but to me, this is enough! About once every other month I do a thorough cleaning on the offweek so I feel better
