Okay so I just saw my OB today to confirm the pregnancy because I was getting nervous about telling on Christmas without having a doctor double check it. Well I told the nurse that I had been charting my temp every morning and she asked what it's for....I told her to know exactly when I ovulated. She said she didn't need to see it only wanted to know my LMP. Well I figured ok she's just the nurse I'll talk to the doc about it. OB told me...exact words..."I'm not interested in seeing your chart at all". I'd like to know why not? But she continued on with her exams and all. So she's telling me I'm due July 20th based on my LMP Oct 13. My cycles have always been longer (35-42 days) which is why I started temping to know what was going on and when. Well I told her that I ovulated on Nov. 13 and that is the conception date, not a chance of it being sooner at all (didn't have sex before that because we were taking a break bc in Sept. I think I miscarried but this doc said it had just been a weird period). So I know from about 3 different websites that my EDD is August 5th because of when I O'd. My OB told me that those websites are wrong and my due date is July 20th. Well she's going to be disappointed when the ultrasound doesn't show me being 10 weeks pregnant. She even said if there is more than a 5 day difference in the size of the baby and her EDD for me then she will need to do further testing. I'm pretty much planning on not doing the "further testing" because it seems idiotic to me to not even look at my chart so you understand how far along I really am. I'm just really annoyed and not sure what to do from here. All along I've wanted to go to a MW and deliver at a birth center, but I know this OB and I knew they could get me in quickly to confirm this pregnancy. I just don't know if I should do the u/s and b/w and see her again in 3 weeks to discuss how those went, or if I should just find someone else. I have no idea. Any advice?
Re: Due date problem (kinda long)
TTC #1 since 8/2010...2 years, 6 IUI's and 1 m/c later...
08/2012 IVF #1, 2 5-day blasts transferred 8/19 = BFP! Beta 1 (8/28)=241, Beta 2 (8/30)=457, Beta 3 (9/5)=3,813, u/s 9/13=Twins!, u/s 9/21=Surprise...there's one more! TRIPLETS!
I agree with the others...switch OBs. I have a longer cycle too and I know that when they ask for LMP that everything will be off. So, I always clarify that I know when I ovulated and my nurse and doctor absolutely listen and never question me. I have always been spot on with the u/s dating too.
Find a doctor that values an educated patient, I know mine does. Good luck!

Never in my arms, but always in my heart.
So should I still do the u/s and b/w that she gave me scripts for, or should I go through getting all that done with the new OB or MW I go to?
Ugh! This is why I went with a mw with DD. My OB didn't listen to me when I told him that I didn't O in Nov, I O'd in Jan. When doing an exam, trying to find a hb (at my estimation 9 wks along) and they couldn't find one, I was told my baby was dead, that I was a horrible mom for not coming in sooner, that I didn't love my baby because I waited so long, etc.
After doing an u/s and confirming that my DD was due Oct 11, not Aug 1, there was no apology, not a word was said, just that they'll see me in 4 wks. They never saw me again.
Omg thats completely horrible.
OP, a 15 day difference in due date is a lot and its pretty silly they won't listen to you. Especially since its not like your'e trying to make yourself further along!
WOW....that's pretty much everything I'm afraid of when it comes to doctors. Saying horrible things and being totally wrong and pretty much not caring.
Due dates are not an exact science. I wouldn't take it personal she is just doing her job.
Wait until your 20 week U/S, that will determine a better due date.
It's standard for a doctor/nurse to base your due date based on LMP.
This. It happens 9 times out of 10 and will be resolved as your pregnancy progresses.
Agree

If I were you, I'd switch doctors. I'd guess that most OBs will still take their own opinion/testing over whenever you say that you ovulated, but she should be willing to at least listen to you. My cycles have always been longer than 30 days too, so when my OB was calculating my due date with my last pregnancy, I told her when I had ovulated. She listened to me, and it turned out that the baby was measuring just a day or two off from what I'd said. Big surprise, huh?
Your pregnancy will progress at the rate that it should, and she'll see that you're right when she does the measurements. As far as ordering extensive testing because you're not where she thinks you should be (when you told her that to begin with!), that seems odd to me. As an OB, she should know that it's VERY COMMON for women to have cycles longer than 30 days!
This. Both my last pregnancy and this pregnancy I had to "adjust" my LMP for the OB because I O'd late both times. It's frustrating, but it is what it is. Good for you for being educated about your body and cycle.
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
Yeah I wish I had thought of "adjusting" the LMP before I went in. Oh well. After Christmas DH and I are going to tour birth centers, hopefully that will go better than this did. I think I'll just call later and cancel my 2nd appointment with this OB. I just really hope I find a midwife that we like and I don't risk out of delivering there. Soooo much to think about & do.
Get a NEW OB! Mine was extremely interested in my tracking my CM and wanted to know the exact time I thought I ovulated. When I said my best guess is this time but need a calendar to give you a more accurate answer she literally stopped and got one out so I could count days and wanted to know everything so we could have an accurate date of the baby before she did my internal u/s.
It made sense when she did the u/s and my guess of timing coincided with the teeny baby in there that had a HB but was still too small to measure the fetal pole at the time.
Good luck to you and Congrats!!
This.
My LMP EDD and O EDD are 9 days apart. I fully expect them to go by my LMP until they do the ultrasound. It happened with my last pregnancy, and it wasm't a big deal at all.
