Where have you found the best price on Alimentum?

I confirmed with our pharmacy and insurance company that they won't cover alimentum.  So now I need to find the best price without dragging Max all over town.  I'm going to check online too, but I thought I would ask.

Oh and I've been told to get the RTF because it isn't as bitter as the powder.  Has that been other's experience?

Re: Where have you found the best price on Alimentum?

  • We started with RTF with C and then slowly switched to powder.  K was on it (briefly) and we went straight to powder and she did fine.

Amazon typically had the cheapest prices.  Sometimes a store sale + coupon was better, but Amazon is generally the best.

If Max will take it, powder is going to be much less expensive.  It really adds up, especially when they max out their formula intake :)

  • Thanks Willis.  I'm going to buy a bottle of RTF and a can of powder and see if he will take the powder first, but if not maybe I can mix the two and slowly increase the powder/decrease the RTF.  He eats 38oz/day right now so using RTF is not ideal.  Of course if that's all he'll eat I'll suck it up, but the powder would be better.  We're just dong a trial right now so the pedi can rule out food allergies as the cause for his severe eczema.

  • We had to do the RTF as well.  The powder still irritated DS's tummy.  We were on it from about 6 weeks until about 7.5 months when we were able to move to soy.

I was in MI then and the cheapest was at Meijer, a chain grocery but I think that is IN / MI / OH only.  The next best deal was target for us.  It was still $8-10 per bottle.  It sucked.

Prices changed so I was constantly looking online for deals - Amazon, Walmart etc.  Our Target did an awful thing and once I started buying 5 or more bottles per week, they raised the price.  Creeps.

Call Abbott, we were able to get some coupons from them when we pleaded our case.  Let me know if you do decide to do powder, I think I have some cans.
