Babies: 0 - 3 Months

what is your 4 mo old's bedtime?

I am really struggling with her sleeping schedule.  When she first started to STTN, she was going to bed between 10 and 11.  But now that she is lasting for longer streches before waking up to eat, I've tried putting her down earlier.  But I can't find a consistent time that works.  Sometimes she is getting tired and fussy at around 6:00, but then sometimes, I try settling her down around 7:30 or 8:00 and she won't go to bed until around 10:00.

Any thoughts or insight?  Do I just need to settle on a time and be consistent with it, or is she too early for a specific bedtime at this point?  What are other 4 mo old mommies doing?

Thanks! :)

  • We usually start bedtime at 7 with the intent that he is down by 8, but try to be flexible with it--some nights he's ready to turn in by 6:30 so we start our routine then. He has been going from 8p-3a more frequently lately, which is technically STTN based on the # of hours, I guess. I'd prefer 12a-8a, but what can you do :)

  • DD goes down between 7 and 7:30 and wakes up anywhere between 6 and 7:30am. We started a schedule/routine at 2 months and that is the one she fell into naturally.

  • We start to get her ready around 9PM but usually do not get her down until 10PM.  I wrap her in her swaddle wrap (only way she will sleep through the night) then take her downstairs and feed her.  I'll bounce her a little until she falls asleep.  Then I carry her upstairs and put her in her crib and she falls asleep.  Sometimes I have to turn on her crib soother so she can watch it until she falls asleep.

I've tried reading to her before bed but she just gets annoyed and shakes her head.

  • We bathe them at 6:30, then PJs and swaddle.  We feed them a bottle after that in their nursery playroom with the lights off and the white noise machine on.  We then put them down awake but drowsy at about 7 every night.  They're out within minutes, and usually sleep until 3-5 a.m., if not straight through the night.
  • We start our routine between 7-730, putting him down by 8. Sometimes he goes right to sleep, sometimes he doesn't want to sleep until 9. He wakes up at 3-4 to eat then goes back down until 7 or 8. He is doing SO much better at putting himself back to sleep lately, it is wonderful.

  • We bathe between 6-7, have a nighttime feeding shortly after that, then she is usually down any time between 7:30-8.
