First U/S at 8w4d...TWINS

Had my first u/s this past Saturday and was extremely shocked to see two little babies! We conceived naturally but twins do run in both of our families. I was so shocked I didn't even ask any questions. Now, I am a little concerned because my Dr wants to see me back this Saturday. Anyone know why I need another U/S so soon? Pictures of the U/S are on my profile.

  • I'm not sure why they want to see you again but I'm new to the twin world so that doesn't mean much!  However.... Congratualtions!!!!!!  I think it's so exciting the first time we are told there are two babies!

  • Congratulations!!

I had another u/s two weeks after my first just to make sure they were both still growing... I'd say if you saw two heartbeats and your OB didn't seem concerned, it's probably just their routine with twins. They could also be looking for a membrane between them to decide if they are di/di or mo/di. (I didn't look at your pictures though, so I'm not sure about that.) A lot of times early on they can't see one so they'll bring you back to check.

    Best of luck!

  • Congrats!!!!! So exciting! I found out a 8 weeks and then didn't have another scan until my nt scan at 11 weeks, but I did have an appt between then. Good luck! :)

Yes, this is what I thought.  Based on your u/s pic they look monochorionic (one shared placenta).  Since it's really early, they might not have been able to see a dividing membrane to determine if they are in the same amniotic sac or not.  Monochorionic twins are always identical which is not hereditary, just a happy fluke.  Congratulations!

  • we went every week for the first 4 weeks, then took a break now we are starting the every 2 week U/S depends on your doctor, the type of twins etc....

  • The same thing happened to us! We were in shock and completely forgot to ask any questions and just walked out in a fog! Write down all of your questions because it still shocks me everytime I see 2 and I again go brain dead! I went in 2 weeks later after my 1st U/S because they wanted to monitor them really closely in the beginning. Congratulations and best of luck!
