Foods that cause gas

I have read conflicting information on the internet about this so I wanted to ask if anyone could speak to this personally. Are there foods that I may eat besides diary that can cause gas in LO? Kellymom says no and a few other sites I looked at said yes. I had veggies with my dinner last night and DS has bad gas all night...like squirming in pain, Spitting up after each feeding, legs to his chest.

  • I think foods that cause you to have gas have the potential to have the same effect in the baby--like broccoli or beans.  I haven't noticed that effect in DD, but I know some people say that happens.

  • I think it all depends on the kid.  My friend can't eat spicy food.  I can eat stuff that sets my mouth on fire and DD is fine.  I can't eat any dairy though.  I also can't eat a lot of broccoli, and brussel sprouts are a no.  LOL.  Mostly I think it is just trial and error.  Also, sometimes I think it is not just the food itself, but the amount of it.
  • In my pedi's practice, one doctor told me broccoli would give LO gas, my regular pedi told me broccoli would not affect him. So who knows...I err on the side of caution and don't eat broccoli and I dont overdo it on veggies in one sitting, especially green ones. I dont get gassy from them, but I've heard people in general can. Since LO is a very gassy baby to begin with and has reflux I just use caution. I already can't eat dairy because of him, so I try to just avoid anything that might bother him.

Trial and error though...see how he does tomorrow after no veggies, then have some more again in a couple of days...if you see a pattern you know it's the culprit!!
