My son has a pretty bad cold (cough and runny nose). I don't think it is anything more serious because he is in good spirits and doesn't have a fever. The cough gets worse at night. I was going to give him children's benedryl until I read it is not for children under 4. Is there anything, other than motrin or tylenol, I can give my little man to make him feel better.
Re: Cold medicine at 28 months?
I found some "natural" cough medicine at Walgreens that worked really well. It is safe for kids 2 and up.

"Natural" homeopathic stuff hasn't been tested by the FDA. You are taking a chance by using that stuff. The FDA is the group that pulled the children's meds off shelves.
We use honey, Tylenol, a humidifier, extra pillows and fluids. There really isn't much you can do. But in a few days your LO will be better with or without meds.

Life is good!
At DS's 3 year check-up, I asked our pedi about some type of medicine I could give him because of his continuous cough--would keep both of us up throughout the night.
Like pp said, she noted that the stores don't carry anything for their young age, but she recommended 1 teaspoon of Childrens Triaminic only before bedtime. It has helped, too. I'll also give DS some Childrens Benadryl when his nose is like a faucet. Again, 1 teaspoon.
Hope this helps!!
P.S. Here is the Dr. Sears link regarding Benadryl dosage. https://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t088800.asp
