Pumping question

I am currently pumping at work 2x a day, during my lunch around 11:30, and during my prep period around 1:30 ( I'm a teacher). I get about 8 oz. the first session but only 3-4 the 2nd session.

I'm wondering if I could pump at 3:30 instead once my students are gone for the day, and get more milk since it would be more time in btwn pumping sessons. The only thing is that when I get home around 4:15-4:30, LO is usually ready to eat and I nurse her. If I pump at 3:30 will I have enough for her when I get home?

 Thanks!

Re: Pumping question

  • I'm also a teacher and if I were you I'd pump at 3:30. I pump at 10:30 (lunch) and then at 2:30 when my last kid leaves. I leave right after and pick up DS and he eats right after we're home (3:30) and he is always perfectly content.

  • Your baby is much better at getting out milk than your pump. I've gone to pump, expecting LO to nap, only to have her wake and nurse immediately after I pumped.

Most people get less as the day goes on but if you can condition your body into the knowing the same time everyday, you'll probably see in increase in your production as well.

  • I know pumping is annoying, but could you do both?  If you are wanting to increase your supply, the best way is to nurse or pump more often....so pumping 3x at work will do the trick.

I pump on my drive home sometimes 2:30-3:30 and I still nurse LO at 4pm and she doesn't complain on the days I've pumped vs. not.
