We started CD'ing DD at 5 months. We'll CD the new baby too. I love BG's. A lot of newborns don't fit in the one size pocket diapers though. We'll be using prefolds and covers until DD is big enough for our pocket dipes. If you need more BG's, the Cotton Babies site has "seconds" for sale in their clearance section. They have minor defects (uneven stitching, dust that'll come out in the wash), but they work just fine. I have seconds from them and I can't even figure out what's wrong with them. They don't come with inserts though.

Yay! You will love it! We CD'd DS and I would never go back to disposables (we didn't CD at first with him).
Once she is big enough to fit into one size diapers (around 3ish months), we will use Bum Genius Elementals. That was the main bulk of our stash with DS and we just love the ease of use, how trim they are, and that they don't ever leak.
For the newborn stage, we'll be using a combination of things. I have XS BG AIOs, a couple of other NB/XS pockets and AIOs, a handful of Kissaluv 0s, another handful of cute fitters, and then a bunch of prefolds and covers.
We did with DS and will with this one too. My favorite diapers are BG 4.0.
I didn't discover them until DS was almost 2, so we'll start using them with his little sister earlier.
Until she's big enough and DS is potty trained, we'll use prefolds and kissaluvs with thirsties covers, and then fuzzi bunz pocket diapers.
We want to cloth diaper and I've bought about 13 diapers of a few different kinds (mostly pocket-type) for us to try. I think we'll use disposables for the first little while until we get used to diapering plus we were given a few packs of newborn Pampers so wouldn't want them to go to waste. Once we're used to baby and all the changes then we plan on trying out the cloth. I hope we stick with it because it's so much better for baby, the environment, our budget, etc. Plus the pocket diapers are so extremely cute!!
Oh, and we bought several Kawaiis, Bummies and Flip diapers plus one or two other brands which were on sale. I ordered them all online (we live in Canada so needed to find places to ship here) but did a lot of the buying on cyber Monday. I got mostly reusable inserts but also 2 packs of Flip disposable inserts for traveling or when my mother takes baby just to make it easier on her. I also bought a Bummies wet bag for the nursery. I think we've spent $225 or so with the deals and sales.

we'll be cding but we're using a whole bunch of different brands to see what fit best! We're starting out with GMD prefolds and thirsties covers, then a few fitteds, and maybe she'll start fitting into the Grovia and the other OSs I have.
I have:
Thirsties Duo Diapers
Grovia AI2s (a good 8)
a Medium Fuzzibunz
2 Bumcheeks (from a daily deal website)
a whole bunch of piddle poddles (fitteds)
a couple of wonder wrap covers
a few Sustainablebabyish fitteds for overnight when she starts soaking through things
That's all I can think of right now! I suggest doing a diaper trial, or just buying different types of diapers, since you'll never know what will fit your baby best!

We are! We have a mix of prefolds and covers, Lil Joeys, and xs BGs and Fuzzibunz for the newborn stage. Then we have mostly BGs (a mix of 3.0s, 4.0s, and Freetime) for after that, with some Swaddlebees and a couple other brands mixed in.

I strongly suggest you check out the FAQs on the CD board and lurk over there - I learned a lot of things - one of which was NOT to put all of your eggs in one basket with one type of diaper!

We've bought 24 newborn prefolds and 6 newborn covers, but we plan on making the investment in flip one-size diapers when he gets close to outgrowing them. I have a friend who uses them with her 10 month old, and she's not even close to outgrowing them. I'm hoping we can get away with using the newborn prefolds as inserts in the flips for a while, but we're prepared to bite the bullet and buy a bunch of inserts if we have to.
We just bought Kawaii's and got them in the mail Friday! They are all washed, stuffed and snapped down to newborn size. We got the minky's and they are SOOO soft!!
We'll use BumGenius for the one size diapers (once she hits ~12lbs), but will be using GMD fitteds and prefolds with covers before that. Oh and some BG xs too.
