Food Allergy

New here!

Hi all- new member.  My son is 10 weeks old, and possibly MSPI.  About a week before Thanksgiving his poo started to smell off...the best way to describe it would be burnt bacon or butter popcorn.  I then suspected that there was blood in his stool.  The next week I went on an antibiotic for an abcessed milk duct, and we started seeing green bloody stool that had the same smell and was the consistency of pizza dough.  Consulted with my ped and they suggested that it was a reaction to the antibiotics, so we switched him to formula for a bit.  Once my course of antibiotics ended, I resumed nursing and he went in for his 8 week vaccinations.  Again, the green, bloody, smelly, mucousy stool.  started formula again and things did not get better.  Back to the ped we went, and we started Nutramigen.  This was Wednesday.  We retested his stool today, and it's still bloody.  Do babies with MSPI still have bloody stool on Nutramigen? We meet with a GI specialist on Jan 4 to get more answers, but thought I'd check here in the meantime.

thanks!

Re: New here!

  • Nutramigen still has some milk in it, I think I remember that being more lactose free than dairy free (it has been over a year since my dd stopped that for Neocate)  G, was MSPI and is just weaning off from the Neocate now, (she outgrew the MSPI around a year old, but had to stay on formula while we figured out some other issues).  Good luck.

  • It would also take a couple of weeks for any allergen to clear from his system & his symptoms to stop. You should have a better idea of how it's working by the time u see the GI doc in January. Nutramigen does Still contain milk but it is a bit more broken down so many kids with an intolerance will be ok on it. Otherwise you'd have to do Neocate or Elecare. Good luck!
