VBAC

Pregnant 4 months after C-Section

Hi Ladies, I was wondering if any of you have experienced being pregnant so soon after a C-Section. My Dr. Appointment is not until January so I'm not entirely sure what to expect. My DS was born on August 21st and I am pregnant again with an EDD of August 14th. Do any of you know if it will be possible for me to try for a VBAC? I'm afraid by Dr. will be against it.

  • Some might let you, but I think most have a bare minimum of 12 months between deliveries, though you'd be close.

  • I've heard a recommendation of at least two years, talk to your OB and ask for actual statistics - like are you statistically more likely for a uterine rupture since your LO will be so close or is it just her preference and if so based on what. It probably matters where you live too, some areas are far more encouraging of VBAC. You might want to shop all the local OB's and see what they say if it is really important to you.  Good luck!
  • Wow, I've never heard 2 years- that is excessive!  If you haven't healed after a year, then there is an issue.  That said, I have heard 12 months between deliveries.  But you never know if you don't ask!

  • I'm in the same position as you.  I found a doctor who will do a VBAC!

  • Pretty sure you will have to have a repeat c-section. If you get pg sooner than 12 months post partum then there is too much chance of the scar rupturing because your body is not fully healed from surgery. Too many risks.

My doctors are being very supportive of VBAC at getting pregnant 8 months PP (17 months between deliveries). But most of the studies I found say less than 6 months increases your chance of uterine rupture. There isn't a lot of info on the 6-12 range.

  • My doctor would not have been supportive of a VBAC less than 18 months after my first pregnancy.

(Lurking in hopes of having a VBAC this year)
My doctor told me she requires 8 months PP before another pregnancy, but prefers a year. We are going to start trying when DD is 9 months, if it happens right away, we'll have to see what she says?
