My 8 month old daughter hates tummy time still. She was colicy when she was born, so the first three months or so had little tummy time. Since then, we try every day but she just lays her head down and cries. She has rolled over both front to back and back to front, but she rarely does it. She is sitting now and seems on track developmentally in all other ways but this. Any ideas on what to do? We get down on the floor with her, have tried the boppy, all kinds of toys.. the most time we get is 5 to 10 minutes and most of that is crying time.
Also, she still sleeps in her rock and sleep. Shameful I know.. but we started again when she had colic and it helped and now she hates her crib. She will sleep 10 hours in her rock and sleep at night but not in the crib. That will be tackled after the holidays but any ideas?
Re: Tummy time / rolling over / sleeping in crib
My lo was the same; colicky, acid reflux, etc. One day, he just flipped on to his tummy while sleeping and it hasn't bothered him since. Everyone puts so much emphasis on tummy time, but I felt like forcing him to do it was counter-active. I'd say if she's, happy, healthy, on track with everything else, just let her tell you when she's ready.
Mine didn't like tummy time either for the longest time. She just wouldn't have it. all of a sudden one day she rolled over onto her tummy and there she was.. loved it.
I'd agree with the other posters, that the point is to develop the muscles to sit/stand and roll over. I wouldn't be concerned.
