The Bumbo scare!

Re: The Bumbo scare!

  • We had a bumbo for DD, it serves it's purpose but if you are a MORON  and put it on another surface other than the floor well...then... what do you expect? It's not a product flaw - it's a people flaw.

  • I'm not getting one because I don't see how they're beneficial at all.

I have been offered one from a friend, but I turned her down. Her response was "But if you leave the room to go get something, you want to make sure your baby is secure..."

If I leave the room to go get something, my child is coming with. Point blank. I am not going to put her in a plastic chair where she can't move and I'm not going to let her sit alone in a room where something could happen. (I'm moving into a house a month before I have my baby) There needs to be someone in the room with her at all times. I will not be using a monitor because the house is small, but if I go out of the room, she's coming with me! That's my opinion.

  • It is a bunch of people blaming a company for their own stupidity!! You should never put a bumbo on a table ever. If a baby could make it tip over on the floor, they would not be hurt. I loved my bumbo...it was one of my favorite things and DS never tipped it on the floor. You should be supervising the child in the seat anyway. Some people are so money hungry that they sue companies for their own dumb actions all the time!

  • We used it and loved it when DS1 was younger. I would NEVER put him in it at 9 months however. As soon as he starting twisting and turning more (even though he still couldnt get out of it on his own) we stopped using it. To me it's just common sense.

  • I can't believe a 9 month old was in a Bumbo!  My kid no longer fit into her bumbo when she was about 3 months old.  By 4 1/2 months if you set her up she could maintain it on her own already.   Even for a late bloomer 9 months seems CRAZY to trust in a Bumbo ON THE COUNTER TOP!

ETA: To all the soon-to-be's saying take your baby with you every time you leave the room I think reality will set in once your baby has arrived and you are attempting real life.  However, you leave them safely and not in a Bumbo on the counter.  After all, you really do have to keep doing all the things you already do.

Ridiculous. Do Not Leave Your Child Unattended. That should be rule #1 of having an infant. You leave the room for any length of time when the child is under two years of age and I can freakin' guarentee shiit like this will happen, low surface, high surface.  HELLO PEOPLE!

Someone was always with our DD when she was an infant and particularly when she was in a bouncey seat, bumbo or swing.  Even in a 5 point safety harness.  You don't want bad things to happen to your children I will say again Don't Leave Your Child Unattended!  Is it really so hard?

Welcome to the litigious world we live in where it MUST be the fault of the manufacturer that you decided to leave your child unattended in a device which requires constant monitoring. Gah.

You wouldn't leave her sleeping strapped into a swing to go to another room? I guess I think that's a bit extreme.

I didn't mean a sleeping 1 month old, I meant a baby that was alert and capable of falling out or wriggling out. An infant is any child under a year old- so that would be a 9 month old too who is able to move themselves around. After a year/ year and a half she was able to be left a little more on her own.  Now we let her play in her room without supervision. I just think if you don't want bad things to happen to your children, particularly ones that lack coordination you should have some kind of supervision around.  Once again not talking about a sleeping baby- talking about an alert child who is capable of moving around.

  • 9 months old, in a bumbo, on a table = ridiculous!  Most 9 month olds can craw, roll over, and are constantly moving.  They obviously will try to move in the bumbo or reach for things while sitting in the bumbo.  Why would you put a 9 month old on a table unattended?  I'm sure the family are getting a bunch of money, for their own stupidity.  I feel bad for the family bc I don't wish that upon anyone, but come on people, common sense!

  • My opinion on this is that if you're leaving your child unattended in a bumbo on a raised surface, then you're an idiot. In my mind, these are the same people that require the warnings on their blow dryers that it shouldn't be used in the bathtub. It's not meant for you to leave your child unattended. Use some common sense and this is a perfectly safe baby item. I know tons of people that use them and love them, but they supervise their children in them. I would definitely still get one.
