Question for those who used Clomid

We got DW an emergency monitoring appt for tomorrow because we think she may have ovulated today (she has very tell tale signs) and she is only cycle day 9.  However they prescribed 100 mg of Clomid this month vs. 50 mg last month.  Has super early ovulation ever happened to anyone else using clomid? Last month we triggered on Day 14. I really hope we didnt miss this cycle or it is a lot of money gone for a missed cycle.
We had three BFN in the Fall of 2011. It is back on to some baby making come June. Swim little fellas, SWIM!!!!

  • I've never ovulated that early from Clomid, but I've heard of it on the internetz.  My RE tells me to start doing OPKs 7 days after starting a round of Clomid.

Hopefully her signs are messed up because of Clomid and it's actually still coming, or you can get one in tomorrow!!  I know the feeling of missing a cycle due to missed ovulation, it's very frustrating!

  • Phew...she didnt miss.  She has some active ovaries at the moment.  Five follies between 10 and 13 on CD 10.  We are hoping they do not all decide to go at once because we might need to cancel (This is going to be a tough choice if they do, neither of us want to head down the higher order multiples road).  Back for monitoring on Thursday.

  • I used clomid during 3 cycles.  Clomid can make your ovulation move around a little.  Definitely call your doc.  They can do an  ultrasound to see exactly where DW is in her cycle.

Glad you didn't miss it!!  My RE told me that once they get to 14ish they usually keep growing.  I wouldn't be surprised if 1-2 of hers take the lead and the others stop growing.  Fingers crossed that's what happens for you!

Hopefully today's monitoring yields good results.  And as far as multiple follicles... don't stress.  I just did IVF and we transferred 4 embryos.  Only 2 of the 4 implanted and of those 2, only 1 was viable.  If you have 5 follies that drop eggies...don't worry... chances of having multiples from that are actually small.  But yes, it could happen.  Good luck today, girls!

  • I have never ovulated early on Clomid, but I did have 4 follicles when the Dr. had me on 100 mg.  Even on 50 mg I regularly produce 2 follicles per cycle.  Our practice doesn't allow for IUI when there are more than 3 follicles present so we had to skip the month of 4.  Our practice does not do a OPK on Clomid cycles because the OPKs just aren't that reliable.  The only time I had a positive OPK it was a false alarm - similar to what you are describing.  :)  Good luck!  We are on round 4 right now.  Hope things work well for both of us!
