Hi! I just read your post below - very late, I'm sorry. I'm so happy you have a plan!
I'm very curious about the PCOS mis-dx though - I know you don't fit the "classic" PCOS type, but did your doctor address "thin type" pcos at all? I ask because of the irregular periods and the pearling ovaries. I'm not 118, I do not present with classic pcos, and have been labled, for lack of a better word, with the "thin type". I have been told that PCOS is not really understood all that well yet, and that there may be other conditions that are currently covered under the "umbrella" of pcos, but have not yet been research in enough detail to be identified seperately... this is just what I've been told, and I know each doctor as his own way of doing things, but I wanted to share with you... did he talk about this at all?
Sorry for being such a curious cat!

Re: SB524... re pcos dx
No worries at all for being curious -- as I am too! I'm so interested this "mystery" of atypical PCOS now. I feel like it's on a spectrum, like autism, where there isn't one set of symptoms that fit every patient the same. Some are milder than others, some present every symptom listed. It's just all so strange.
The RE did not address "thin" PCOS, he was pretty set in his thinking that I did not have it at all and went straight to discussing irregular periods, then onto the other issues at hand. I have an appt on Wed with my OB though, to discuss all this and I'm interested to hear his taken when I tell him the RE said I was uhh .. misdiagnosed!
I'd be lying if I said I didn't think this is all related to the breast cancer. Both my oncologist and breast surgeon have told me that I do NOT have ovarian cancer, and that it's just a horrible coincidence I've had ovarian issues. Yet no one can tell me why they don't think I have it. I'm going to bring this up to my OB as well, and perhaps press to be tested for it. It's just too creepy, and keeps popping up in the back of my mind.
3/11 DX: lean PCOS/anovulatory
9/11 ovarian drilling to remove cysts + 5mg Femara = BFN
10/11 5 mg Femara again = BFP, ectopic pregnancy at 5w4d
11/11 diagnosed with breast cancer
12/11 bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction

Still so sorry you're going through all of this SB but wanted to address on thing - PCO is definitely on a spectrum, which is why it's a "syndrome" because there are so many different facets of the disease. "Thin" or atypical PCO is actually not all that atypical - there were lots of gals without the hirsutism and weight gain on TTTC and IF while I was on there. I also find in general that many OBs will say PCO while many REs will say it's not PCO but unexplained infertility and/or some other sort of ovulatory dysfunction. Anyway, it doesn't really address much but wanted to just weigh in and say your thoughs on PCO being on a spectrum are spot on.
I hope you can get some answers though on the ovarian connections -- especially if you tested postive for the BRCA gene.
