Toddler bed

When did you make the move from the crib to a low toddler bed? (M's has a conversion kit with a rail). I thought the norm was later, but I got the 20month bump email and it said this was ok at her age? Kinda caught me by surprise. Just making sure I'm not too off base in my thinking. When did you make the switch?

Re: Toddler bed

  • Pfft.  Vivi's 22 months and we won't move her until she's climbing out of her crib on the regular.  DS was 3 months shy of 3.

  • Gracie is still in hers until Christmas. I would not be moving her except that we are using the crib for Renee, so Santa is bringing her a big girl bed.
  • Will is still in his crib at 2 1/2 years...we have no plans to move him until he's climbing out of it or needs to be able to get out to potty in the middle of the night.

For sure.  DD is still a great sleeper in her crib and I see no reason to mess it up because "they" say I should.

  • Luke was 25 months when we converted his crib.  I walked in after naps and he was straddling the railing, so that was it for him.  He was in the converted crib for a few months, and then we moved him to a big boy bed when we moved to the new house.  If she's not making a move to climb out I say keep her where she is.  No need to rock the boat if she's happy!
  • We just moved L to a twin bed  last week.  He's about 2.5 yrs.  If he didn't throw his leg over the rail of his crib and act like he was about to climb out, he would still be in the crib.

    If you are not ready...don't.

  • I plan on keeping Jack in his crib till he's crawling out of it. I'm not looking forward to the toddler bed phase.

  • My oldest was a bit over 2.5 when I moved him and that's only because he just got uncomfortable in his crib. He started waking up when his head would end up wedged in the corner or his leg would get caught in the rails. I knew at the point, it was time.

My daughter moved right before she turned 2. I had no intentions but she very much likes to be a big girl. On a whim I told her one day that if she started to pee on the potty and didn't wear diapers anymore then I would get her a big girl bed. From that day on, she has never worn a diaper and never slept in a crib.

I just think you know when they are ready. I was so scared with my first but honestly, he never attempted to get out of his bed until 3.5. My daughter is almost 3 now and she(knock on wood) has never gotten out of her bed at night and only once during a naptime.

  • We didn't move DS until he started climbing out and there wasn't anything left for me to do to keep him in.  I think it was in march, so he was 2y3m.  He climbed out before that (22 months), but I found ways to keep him in for a few more months.
  • I'll be odd gal out. H was almost 2 (20-22) months when I thought, what the heck, lets see what he does. We changed it at nap time and he did fine so we left it.

He didn't stop being a good sleeper and it took a few months for him to realize he could even get out of his toddler bed.

  • we're still in a crib at 33 months :) She has climbed out once...

She started asking when she is going to get a 'big bed like mommy & daddy' last week. I'm putting it off as long as possible!

Both of my kids are still in their cribs.

  • DD was about 2 years, 1 month.  We needed her crib for DS and wanted to give her some time to get used to a toddler bed before moving her to her "big girl bed".  It took a few days to adjust, but it didn't have any major effects on her sleeping habits.
