Darnell hospital, Ft Hood

i was just wondering if any of you ladies have giving birth recently at darnell, i have tricare prime so i have to deliver there and i heard bad things about it but it was from years ago. im due in the beginning of april and just wanted to know what i should expect.

Re: Darnell hospital, Ft Hood

  • I delivered at Metroplex which is right off post. I too heard horror stories about Darnall but I also heard good things. I have Tricare Prime but Darnall was too full and wouldn't take me. That might be the case for you also..

  • Ive heard both good and bad stories, but in my opinion there are more bad ones and thats why we chose to deliver at Metroplex, but we also have tricare standard so that was an option for us not mandatory. Good Luck with the rest of your pregnancy! :)
  • I delivered there and had a fantastic experience (with one exception). I had a midwife that was wonderful, but I had to be induced at 35 weeks and was delivered by the doc on call. Nurses were wonderful, both in L&D and mother/baby unit. We spent a week in the hospital due to complications and baby roomed in with me. The only issue I had was the NICU nurse was a b*tch when she was handing me my baby after delivery. I would recommend delivering there- and I am an RN familiar with the system.

If you want a doc, you can have a doc. If you want to be followed by a midwife, you can choose that option. If you want a natural delivery they are very supportive. If you want an epi.... everything is available. Lots of free classes, lots of on-call support via phone. Take all the tours and classes they offer- it will teach you tons about the whole pregnancy, process, and what to expect at delivery.
