Extremely short of breath after eating?

I know this sounds really strange, but every day about 15 minutes after I eat breakfast, I feel like I can't breathe or catch my breath.  It lasts a couple hours.

I feel this way on and off all day, but it is like clockwork after my first meal of the day.  Sometimes it makes me not want to eat.  Does this happen to anyone else?

Re: Extremely short of breath after eating?

  • I seem to have something similar happen after every meal I eat, regardless of the quantity. I just chalk it up to the baby getting bigger.

    (Not much help, I know.)

  • I definitely get out of breath after I eat. I guess since there's already hardly any room in there, it just makes it worse lol I really haven't been able to eat much lately, or I feel like I can barely breathe.

  • Definitely! Today at church I was snacking on crackers and DH was trying so hard not to laugh because he could hear me struggling to keep my breath, LOL.

I just assume it's part of pregnancy in general; when you're 35 weeks its supposed to be a little harder to breathe. HTH!

  • I get the same way, especially while I'm eating. I understand the frustration!

  • I can only get a few bites in before experiencing this :(  It lasts several hours, too.  Taking my antacid regimen helps a little but I am not convinced it's related to hb but more just that baby is taking up that much space.

  • This happens to me to some extent after all meals, but definitely by dinner time I'm kind of stuck catching my breath.

  • Yes, this happens to me too. I have an especially hard time when I slump Down on the couch after a meal. It makes me look forward to getting this baby out!
  • Yep me too. It's embarassing. It's as though I was eating too much too fast, when really it's just cramped in there!

  • I feel this way also. My LO has dropped a little and I thought after the baby dropped we would be able to breath better, but I guess not. I have 4 more weeks of all this pain and discomfort.
