Might Be Changing Our Baby Name!

We were set on Mason (but i've run into 5 instances this week where someone asked and said 'oh i know a baby mason' or 'oh my granddaughters name is Mason (spelled Maesyn)')

And it was #3 on the 2011 list that just came out.

Anyway, my top name has been Carson, but my DH liked Mason better. Well now he's kind of leaning on my side because we think it'd at least be less popular.

Austin is in the running too, but at #3

Thoughts??

  • LOVE Mason.

  • When I hear Mason I think of Kourtney Kardashian's kid. I really like Carson though, and agree that it isn't as popular.

  • mason is somewhat popular but i feel like everyone has something to say about a name...like who they know with that name....bla bla bla...

that's why my names are hush hush...if mason is your fav....GO FOR IT....you don't know this other MAYSEN ?!   you have to LOVE The name ...that's most important:)  don't compromise!!  speaking of which i don't know any babies with the first name Mason and a lot of my friends are popping out the babies!!

  • I personally don't like Mason, but it has become very popular, especially in our town. Two of my friends have boys named Mason.

And every time I hear it, I always think of Mason jars for canning food...

I think Carson is a cute name though...and I don't really hear it (actually I have never met a Carson) very much.

  • This reminds me of when I was pregnant with DD. We were set on using Sophie for most of our pregnancy, but heard about more and more Sophies/Sophias being born. We reconsidered and ended up naming DD Olivia, which we thought was less popular, but turns out to be the TOP name where we live, and Sophie didn't even crack the top ten most popular. Our family that knew our decision making process thought it was pretty funny.

Anyway, I think I prefer Carter, but it's also more popular than Mason where I am.

I was just going to suggest that name! It's the frontrunner on our list right now.

Mason is such a 'bleh' name to me. I think I've heard it too much and the parents I know how have Masons are not my favorite.

Carson is an OK name, but definitely prefer Carter.

    Good luck! Smile

Oh my gosh! I didn't even realize I said Carter when OP was talking about Carson. Ok, OP, out of Carson and Mason I prefer Carson. But out of Carson and Carter (in case you're curious) I prefer Carter. :)

  • We thought about Mason, too (I love the singer Mason Jennings), but it's way too popular for us. I don't know ... for some reason that just turns me off. As I type that, I realize that sounds totally snotty. Stick out tongue
  • I would go with whatever name you like best.  that being said, I personally avoid any name that is popular or significantly rising in popularity.  I like something that a child can grow with, but not be mixed up with the other kids in his grade.

  • I'm partial to Austin because that's my sons name. We get compliments on it all the time, it's not popular where we live so around here it's a bit different without being weird.

  • I used to love Mason too, so I hear ya!  I think Kourtney Kardashian has now made the name explode...  Kind of like Emma - another name I used to love - was popularized by "Friends".

Carson has the same ending sound as Mason, so I would think if you liked the sound of Mason with your middle and last name it would be a good substitute.  Good luck!  This baby naming part is the toughest for me! :)

  • Mason reminds me of a canning jar. Carson and Austin sound like places, not baby names. I guess they're all just a little too trendy for my taste, but if I had to pick one I'd go with Carson.
  • Someone will always say something about a name.  Even if you pick one of the other names people will know someone that has that name. So go with what you love and don't worry about the name being popular or not.  If that's a concern, I don't think any of choices will really work... :-(

  • I'd stick with Mason. Austin is nice too though. Not a fan of Carson.

  • Thoughts?  You have lots of time. You may even change your mind yet a few times.

RE: the names? Love Carson, don't care for Mason.

  • Out of the three names, I like Mason best but I do understand your hesitation since it's so popular.
  • I love Mason, Carson AND Austin!  I have a friend with a son named Austin and he's adorable and Carson is #1 on our list (pretty much our name, just haven't announced it yet...)
  • I'm not a huge fan of any of your name choices, but if the popularity of Mason is ALREADY bothering you/making you question your choice, then I agree that it would probably be best to make a change. If it was THE name then it wouldn't bother you this much :) Just my honest opinion!

  • I don't like Carson, it reminds me of Carson Daly, and that ruins it for me.
