I've heard people say at this point solids are 'just for fun' a few times. And a post below about solids/less BM has me wondering, when does it stop being just for fun and become an part of a nutitional diet?
Since LO 6mo appt, we have been doing 2 servings of rice/oatmeal a day for her iron intake. So this is what her day looks like:
breakfast: 5tablespoons of oatmeal/rice, 2oz fruit to flavor, 5oz BM bottle
lunch: 4oz straight solids & I offer 2oz of water (sippy cup, she doesn't get much)
5oz BM bottle
dinner (right before bed): 5tablespoons of oatmeal/rice, 2oz of solids to flavor, & 5oz BM bottle
I made a post (maybe just last week?) asking what the MINIMUM amount of BM/bottles our LO should be having a day because Im not 100%... I guess what im getting at, is at what point do solids start outweighting the importance of bottles?
Re: When do solids stop becoming 'Just for fun'?
9-12 months. To me, that sounds like a lot of solids for a 6 month old. One issue that can come out of spoon feeding it that their tummies get full of those solids and then they cut back milk, but they really need mostly milk at this point. You're giving LO 8+ oz of solids and 2 oz of water, all of which is less dense in essential nutrients than milk.
So, JMO, I'd cut way back on the solids and up the milk. Is your daughter only getting 3 milk feedings a day? That sounds crazy low to me. Definitely check with your pedi, or maybe an LC if you don't think your pedi will know specifically about BM, but 15oz of milk at 6 months sounds like not enough. I think 20-30oz is still what they need.
ETA: Fixed the age. Also, Kelly Mom says 30oz on average for a 7 month old BF baby who eats solids.
I guess its just hard for me to think about cutting back her solids because she does so well with them and enjoys it... Everytime we eat, shes opening her mouth and reaching for our food. The second her food is gone, she starts crying and reaching for the bowl. Yeah, about 3-4 milk feedings a day seems to be the normal, and I was thinking maybe it was low too, but Im not quite sure where I can add in another feeding? But like you said if I cut back on solids... Even when she was just drinking bottles she was only eating 4-5 5oz bottles a day. Shes on the smaller end (14.4lbs @ 6mo) but shes always been and seems to be growing just fine.
How much rice/oatmeal is everyone feeding there LO? I believe on the box it says 5 tablespoons= 1 serving, and the Pedi said 2 servings a day for her iron intake.... Did I take that out of context?

Try decreasing the solids and adding some milk to those feedings. For reference, J's schedule is below and he is 6 months/23 lbs. Hope this helps!
7am: 8oz bottle
10am: 2tbsp oatmeal, 4oz puree, 4oz bottle
1pm: 8oz bottle
4pm: 2tbsp oatmeal, 4oz puree, 4oz bottle
7pm: 8oz bottle
I feed Max baby food twice a day right now and the boy dive bomps the spoon and won't stop eating until the jar is empty. I'm going to have to start adding in a 3rd feeding soon.
As for BM/Formula average amounts for the day, I think, range from 24-32oz a day at 6 months. I'm going to double check some of my paperwork after I post this and I'll edit it if I'm wrong.
I would try to increase her BM also, I think they should have 4 bottle feedings at this age so maybe if you focus on adding one more that would be enough. Haven't had our 6 mo appt yet, but DD is having 4 bottles a day (6-8oz FF) and 2 feedings of solids. For the feedings with solids, I have her drink 6oz formula first, then solids, then offer the remaining 2oz of her bottle (which she often doesn't finish).
This is my DD exactly.

No, you're a good Momma for caring and trying to do the best for her. We all make mistakes; no one is the perfect parent. You're going to change what you're doing to make it better. That's how parenting goes. We figure it out as we go along
Mine told me MUCH different information than what was said here.
Mine wanted us to decrease his Formula to ~24-30oz a day )Down from ~40oz a day) and increase solids a lot more. She wants him eating solids breakfast lunch and dinner with 3- 8oz bottles given throughout the day.
This. Always, always feed breast milk first. Also, because your breast milk is so freaking amazing, your baby only needs about 4 oz of it in a bottle at one time. They never really need to increase their ounces as long as it is pretty recently pumped milk because as your baby grows, your breast milk changes to suit their needs WITHOUT having to increase ounces. At least is what i read on Kellymom. So, when I feed Molly milk from my stash and it is 2 months old she probably DOES need more ounces than if I gave her milk that I pumped 2 days ago.
You can also skip the purees and try letting her feed herself a la baby led weaning. We 'cheat' and use a mesh feeder. Molly loves it because she can hold something and chew on it which is all she wants. I am certain if I fed her purees she would eat 'more' but she doesn't need it. She just wants to satisfy her chewing/sucking need at this point.
You are NOT a crappy mom, so don't say it.
From the sounds of some of the PPs, my LO eats a lot more solids than your average baby, I guess. Maybe yours is the same. But I agreed with PPs in that you should offer the bottle first, THEN dive into her solids meal. Then maybe add in a bottle somewhere. A "2nd breakfast", maybe? Or a "pre-breakfast?" Our schedule looks like this if it helps:
5am: Nurses
9:30am: 8oz bottle, fruit and small amount of oatmeal cereal at daycare (I usually don't offer solids for breakfast when he's at home with me. I'll just do an extra nursing session between 9 and noon instead).
12ish: 3oz veggies, 1-2oz fruit, oatmeal cereal (usually eyeballed? maybe 3T?)
2:30pm: 5-8oz bottle
6:00pm: Nurses, then 2-3oz veggie, 1-2oz fruit, oatmeal. Sometimes I have to go and get a little more.
8:00pm: Nurse before bed.
I assume he gets at least 8oz from a nursing session as any time he's not with me during those times, he eats an 8oz bottle. Even if your LO was eating 4-5oz bottles instead of 8, she'd still be getting at least 20oz of milk a day, which is what PPs say is plenty (I've never done the research).
